I’m a gypsy & we don’t give our kids pocket money for an old-fashioned reason – my youngest is spoilt but NEVER has cash
A TRAVELLER has revealed the real reason why she doesn’t give her children pocket money.
Tracey King, 50, from Kent, shared a clip online, where she responded to those wondering if her 12-year-old daughter receives pocket money.
The gypsy woman took to social media to set the record straight, as she simply confirmed: “No, she doesn’t get pocket money.”
Tracey then went on to say that she doesn’t know any travellers that give their little darlings pocket money.
She revealed that whilst it's normal for a lot of non-travellers to give their child pocket money, this isn't as commonplace in the gypsy community.
Instead, she then explained that as is the case with her family, she will buy her daughter whatever she wants, whether that's food or clothes, instead of giving her daughter a set amount of cash every week.

As well as this, Tracey revealed that although her youngest child, Scarlett, 12, is spoilt, she never has any cash.
And not only does she not carry any money, but Tracey also shared that her daughter doesn’t have a bank account either.
Instead, Tracey shared that her youngster has a child’s GoHenry card, which teaches her how to use a credit card.
Tracey expressed: “Non-travellers used to get pocket money every Friday. In my era, we didn’t get pocket money.
“Today, where it’s modernised and everything is at your fingertips, I still don't know travellers that give their children pocket money, because they get it every day.
“Everything they want, we buy. If we’re walking around the shops and she says ‘can I have that?’, I’ll get it for her. Because that’s what we do."
Tracey said that her daughter Scarlett doesn't often ask for sweets like many kids, and instead, will regularly ask her mother to buy her fruit and vegetables.
The gypsy mother then continued: “She’s my last child, she’s my baby child. Yes, we spoiled her a bit more than we did the others.”
'MINE DON'T GET POCKET MONEY EITHER'
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @traceywinter1, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 44,000 views in less than 24 hours.
Many social media users flocked to the comments and revealed that they too don’t give their children pocket money.
Five gypsy traditions
CHANTELLE Devonshire, a 22-year-old gypsy wife from Cambridge, told Fabulous the traditions that many travellers believe in.
NO MAY: Don't wash, cut or buy: “In the month of May, some travellers believe that if you buy an outside brush, it means that you’re going to swipe one of your family members away, like they’re going to die."
PAY RESPECTS: Wear black and 'sit up': “Travellers will dress in black for months out of respect when a close family member dies. We all ‘sit up’ when someone dies. It’s to show your respect to the person that died and to their loved ones."
BURN IT: When an elderly traveller dies: "When some elderly travellers die, the family will take everything out of the trailer and they will burn the trailer. It’s out of respect - they wouldn’t want someone else living in their trailer.”
GET LUCKY: Touch wood: "Travellers believe magpies are bad luck. They also believe in touching wood. If you talk to a traveller, many of them will say ‘touch wood that doesn’t happen’. They think that if they touch wood they will have good luck."
DON’T SAY IT: Banned words: “There’s certain words travellers don’t say. My husband won’t say ‘ferret’. Lots of travellers won’t say ‘devil’, they’ll say ‘the muller’ instead.”
One person said: “Mine never had pocket money. They always had money. They had what we had.”
Another added: “Mine don’t get pocket money either, if they want something or money I give or I get it.”
