There’s a 19p hack you can execute before hanging your sheets up to dry that’ll ensure a wrinkle-free finish when they’re dry and on your bed.

All you need is a common kitchen item.

“Ironing wrinkles out of bedding can be an extremely long and tiring task, but luckily there are some tips and tricks to tackle the problem without an iron,” expert Rebecca Swain assured.

“Having crisp and smooth bedding feels like a luxury, and thanks to this simple hack, it doesn’t have to feel like a chore.

“Households may be shocked to know that some hacks take little to no effort.

“Simple tricks like spritzing water onto the sheets and incorporating damp socks, damp towels and ice cubes into the drying process will all help to tackle stubborn wrinkles.”

But the real star of the show is baking soda

According to Rebecca, the common household product can act as natural fabric softeners which will reduce wrinkling.

Soaking bed sheets in baking soda can help prevent creases by softening the fabric fibres and reducing wrinkles.

Baking soda is alkaline in nature and works as a natural fabric softener and deodorizer.

When you soak bed sheets in a solution of water and baking soda, the baking soda penetrates the fibres of the fabric, relaxing them and making them less prone to creasing.

How do you do it?

Firstly, prepare a solution by dissolving baking soda in water. You can use warm water to help dissolve the baking soda more effectively.

Then, submerge the bed sheets completely in the baking soda solution, making sure they are fully saturated.

Allow the sheets to soak in the solution for at least 30 minutes to an hour.

This gives the baking soda enough time to penetrate the fibres.

After soaking, rinse the sheets thoroughly with clean water to remove any residual baking soda.

Finally, hang the sheets to dry or tumble dry them on a low heat setting - and ensure you smooth out any wrinkles before drying.
