Some viewers of the BBC soap have expressed their disappointment over how The Six have been portrayed after the death and have blasted bosses for writing out Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean, at the most crucial time.

Sharon fled to Australia almost immediately after the death of Keanu and has been seldom seen since.

It has meant that fans have no idea how she has been coping knowing that her would-have-been husband is dead.

Sharon also missed out on the permanent burying of the body in the cafe which proved a crucial moment for The Six.

There has also been accusations of 'character assassination' with fans raging that the women have gone from being strong and confident to breaking down at every second.

Expressing their thoughts about the soap story's aftermath online, one fan said: "I hate how the story has turned 6 otherwise spirited, confident, assured women into whining, cowering, insecure characters, afraid of their own shadows and unwilling to stand up for themselves."

Someone else went on to say: "Honestly I thought it was going to be a real kind of women supporting women storyline but it's far from it, like others have said here it's just depressing and frustrating to watch."

As a third took issue with Nish Panesar still floating in glory above the women, writing: "The 'EastEnders hates men!' crowd from Christmas must be thrilled that the abusive husband has come out on top while they all fall apart and have their characters assassinated.

"There's good moments in the post Christmas plot but I really can't see what they're going for overall. I suppose we'll have to wait and see."

Before a fourth penned: "Yeah this whole Six storyline has become a hot mess, and not the fun kind either. It's depressing and just seems to get worse, with no relief for any character in sight, just more misery.

"What is the endgame here? I hope they don't drag this all the way to the anniversary.

"I don't want to see these characters spiral for a whole year or more, it's not good TV."

In the aftermath, despite Suki having divorced her husband in order to be with Eve Unwin for good, she has struggled in negotiating divorce terms with him.

Denise Fox has found herself facing a downward spiral which has seen her suffer vivid hallucinations as well as reconnect with ex Lucas Johnson in prison.

Stacey Slater has continued to ramp up her affair with Denise's hubby Jack Branning with them enjoying some seedy sex sessions behind Denise's back.

Linda Carter has been pushed to breaking point with her alcoholism reaching an all-time high.
