It subsequently lead to a raunchy chat between Tim and his wife Sally, but for some Coronation Street fans, the scenes were the latest in what they have branded 'sex street'.

Taking to a Reddit forum, one fan raged: "Is it just me or over the last handful of episodes the script has been littered with sex talk or quite childish innuendos...?

"Despite the ongoing story line, there seems to be loads of awful references to sex.

"It's like they're now looking for ways to reduce the quality of what they're airing and this is an effective way of doing it."

A fellow fan replied: "It's been giving 'Are you being served' vibes."

Another wrote: "The thing is it all feels childish and crass rather than like actual sex talk between adults.

"None of it feels natural and oftentimes it's so setup just to force in "haha sex comedy" which is the exact opposite of showcase the topic as a meaningful part of a relationship.

"Even Dee Dee, they've had her and Joel rush into the bedroom various times and make a ton of innuendo.

"Then all of a sudden she reveals she's always been celibate JUST in time for the reveal that Joel is having an affair. Felt so forced rather than an interesting character layer or anything."

Meanwhile a fellow viewer raged: "I can just imagine the writers slapping one another on the back, going 'job well done', regarding their continued hilarity and hijinks.

Coronation Street's Tracy Barlow ends marriage to Steve McDonald

"Wonder what the actors think, do they go home to their families proud of their day's work anymore? It's god-awful s***e.

"Steve acting like a gormless 10-year-old, walking around in a blazer, as if he's trying to get into a cricket club's Christmas dinner, knowing he'll be kicked out. The whole Tommy/Tracey issue is garbage, imo. Just so forced."

One viewer theorised: "There has obviously been a review of language permitted to be used on Soaps before the 9pm watershed that came into place about a year ago.

"Direct references to sexual acts and using words like fart would never have featured before.

"Not just Corrie but Emmerdale too- can't speak for the other soaps as I don't follow them.

"In the past they might use "trump" but never fart and very oblique sexual references."
