We renovated our dream home in 2 and a half months but people say it looks like ‘every other couple’s modern house’ now

THEY renovated their dream home in two and a half months.

But, after sharing pictures of the house now it's finished, Amy has been blasted for making it look like "every other couple's modern house".

Others insisted it was a "crime" to get rid of the abode's original features, including the green carpet in the hallway and up the stairs.

Amy took to TikTok to share pictures of how the house looked when it was listed on Rightmove, and how it looks now - now that the renovation project is complete.

Writing over the top of the picture slideshow, personal trainer Amy said: "The estate agent thought we had no chance with the amount of viewings he had but we had every little bit of hope."

She kicked off with pictures of the hallway and stairs, which had an eye-catching green carpet covering it.

It also had a dark wood banister.

"Could not wait to get started on this, but wanted to keep the bannister and upcycle it," she said.

And while people told her not to paint the banister black, because it wouldn't "look right", Amy ignored the advice and went with her gut.

"Excited to add a console tablet etc. to this, we have a mirror radiator on the side too but can't see the pic," she added.

Moving onto the bathroom, Amy said they "knew this was going to be a big job", but one they took on regardless.

"We wanted hotel vibes and that's exactly what we got," she said.

"We knocked the bathroom through to the toilet to extend".

They were surprised at how big the bedroom was, until they put their massive bed in.

"But it's what I always wanted so here we are," she said.

"Wardrobes pending!"

The size of the garden was one of the main reasons they wanted the house, and they "just about finished" their renovation of it before the winter arrived.

They put in an outdoor barbecue area, and want to add "more plants" and "pillars that separate patio from the garden".

Amy concluded the slideshow by sharing pictures of the "cosy vibes" in the spare room, and their dining room decked out for Christmas.

While Amy and her other half are clearly thrilled with the look of their house now, people in the comments section weren't convinced.

"That green carpet was beautiful omg what a crime," one wrote.

"In fact the whole renovation is a crime!"

Others disagreed, particularly about the carpet, with one writing: "That green carpet was absolutely disgusting!! Are you blind?"

"Ugliest carpet I've ever seen, it’d be straight out if I was decorating," someone else said.

As a third commented: "It was awful!"

The criticism of the makeover continued with other comments, with one writing: "Now just looks like every couples modern house.

"Tbf as long as u like it."

"Personally I preferred the old look, great effort tho," a third commented.

"They’ve sucked out all the charm out of the original home and replaced it with dull monotone decor," someone else said.

"It’s not hideous but it has 0 character."

"There’s a million ways you can decorate a home without making it look like a big dentist’s reception.

"You need better taste!"

Others defended Amy and her partner's home transformation, with one commenting: "Absolutely beautiful great job and the house looks so cosy and so homely now!"

"Oh my god I can’t get over how well they’ve done this," another added.

"How long did it take?" a third asked.

"2 and a half months, garden longer due to weather," Amy replied.

"OMG love just love you have worked so hard and it shows - can’t wait to see the 2024 transformations," someone else said.

With Amy responding: "Thank you so much this comment is the best!

"Kitchen, conservatory, porch coming in 2024. Then lots of new things too."
