The dad-of-two will now tell his story "in his voice" in a documentary set to hit screens tomorrow night.

The doc will show how Kate stood by Derek's side through his health battle - and looks back to their early years together.

But it also gives an insight into their children's relationship with their dad as he spent his final years battling the after effects of Covid.

In one of the clips, Kate suggests her son Billy and Derek read out birthday cards she'd been sent.

Derek can be seen reading out one of the cards, and smirking at the sweet message.

Billy then reads out one of the birthday wishes, before Derek skims over another.

The dad says: "It's from the neighbour Maggie."

Billy then jokingly replies: "Well read it out, you can't just say who it's from."

Derek starts laughing, before appearing to become emotional.

Young Bill can be seen leaning down and kissing his father on the shoulder, while rubbing where he kissed.

In another tender moment, daughter Darcey is snapped helping Kate while Derek is in a wheelchair.

The mum says: "Darcey, can you help me lift dad's leg a little bit? Thank you."

The teen can be seen helping her dad stand, and carefully helping him sit back down.

She then sweetly says: "There you go."

Before helping her father into bed by swinging his legs around.

Young Darcy then walks around her father's hospital bed, passing pillows from a nearby seat to her mum.

The teen helped carry her father's coffin at his funeral last month.

Derek was farewelled at a service where he and Kate married nearly 20 years ago.

Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan were among the string of celebrities who joined the family to mourn 56-year-old Derek.

Kate clutched the hand of 14-year-old Billy while leaving the service in Primrose Hill, North London.

Her daughter Darcey, 17, put on a brave front as she helped to carry her dad's coffin in and out of the church.

Derek's final days to be shown in doc

EXCLUSIVE by HANNAH HOPE

KATE Garraway’s late husband Derek will be seen talking on camera in a documentary covering his final weeks.

The former political lobbyist, who died in January aged 56, shares touching moments with his children as ITV cameras record the end of his four-year struggle with the devastating effects of Covid.

His illness left him with limited speech but he was said to be determined that the world should hear from him.

A scene from the trailer shows Derek in bed with a notepad and pen.

He says: “My name’s Derek Draper, I want you to hear my story.”

Sitting on his bed, GMB presenter Kate, 56, says: “You’ve written Covid changed everything. Do you mean for you?”

To which he responds: “Yes.”

Kate then asks: “Where’s your story going to end?”

His ordeal has already been the subject of two award-winning films, Finding Derek and Caring for Derek.

Kate, mum to their two children Darcey, 18, and Billy, 14, said the latest was very much his idea.

A source said: “Derek really wanted to make this documentary and have his say.

“It was incredibly brave of him to let cameras into his home.”
