Monty Don forced to flee garden centre after being stitched up by worker on tannoy as co-star snaps ‘leave him alone!’

MONTY Don has revealed he was forced to flee a garden centre after being stitched up by a worker on the tannoy.

The Gardeners' World star, 68, recounted the time he popped into his local centre for seeds.

Monty was keeping a low profile and running his errands when suddenly an announcement was made.

Appearing on Wednesday's episode of The One Show, he explained: "Well, the last time I went to a garden centre, I went in and was looking at a packet of seeds...

"And suddenly there was a tannoy announcement that said, 'Ladies and gentlemen, Monty Don is here'."

He added: "So I left, I legged it. And so I don't go to garden centres so much, but I... It's a shame."

Monty was joined on the green sofa with actress Sheridan Smith who had revealed she loved garden centres.

She told hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas: "I always come back with a little gnome or something."

Jermaine was amused by Monty's garden centre tale and issued a warning to viewers.

The former footballer said: "And leave him alone if you see him in a garden centre!"

Meanwhile, Monty, who has a brand new BBC show with his wife Sarah, clarified his future on Gardeners' World.

He told Radio Times: “In the end, I’m a gardener and my life is lived in my garden.
