I wanted a $700 Pottery Barn mirror but I’m a cheapskate – I DIYed it on a $20 budget, people say I ‘nailed it’
A DIY fan has made her decor dreams come true with a cheapskate version of a $700 Pottery Barn mirror.
She made a copycat version on a $20 budget and people say she "nailed it."
Do It On A Dime (@doitonadimeofficial) has proved that, with a little imagination and can-do, anything can be achieved.
This sort of design project is nothing new for this lady.
It's what her TikTok is all about and she has 604,000 followers eager to see what she gets up to next.
“My favorite Pottery Barn dupe," she said in her post.
“I’m a cheapskate who wanted this $700 mirror from Pottery Barn with a $20 budget," she added.
It might have been an impossible task, but not for her.
First, she went straight to Amazon to get the basics for her dupe.
“So I bought 12 of these mirrors for super cheap on Amazon," she said.
Laying them flat she spritzed the surfaces with water and then did the same again, this time with silver and gold spray paint.
“The paint won’t stick to the water, giving it that antique look," she said.
“These mirrors came with everything I needed to hand it, including glue and sticky tabs."
The button detail from the pricier version was missing, but a trip to the hardware store fixed that.
“They have these penny tiles. They are really easy to rip off and to mimic those Pottery Barn buttons and put these inbetween the mirrors," she said.
The final result was a dupe that gave the more expensive mirror a run for its money.
Commenters were impressed and said it was a sensible thing to do.
“You nailed it, looks great," said one person.
