Missing girl, 5, who vanished from home dies in hospital after being found in London canal

A MISSING five-year-old girl who vanished from her home has died in hospital after being found in a canal.

Cops were informed the child was missing from where she lived in Wharf Road, Islington, London, at around 4.15pm on February 17.

Around ten minutes later, the girl was found in nearby Regent's Canal.

Officers and members of the public rescued her from the water and carried out CPR, before she was rushed to hospital.

The girl sadly passed away at around 7pm, the force said.

Enquiries are ongoing, however police are not treating the circumstances as suspicious.

A police spokesperson said: "At 4.13pm on Saturday, 17 February we received a report that a five-year-old girl was missing from her home in Wharf Road, N1.

"Officers responded and carried out a search of the area. At 4.24pm the girl was found in a nearby canal.

"Officers and members of the public rescued her from the water and officers carried out CPR.

"Paramedics were called and the girl was taken to hospital where she sadly died at around 7pm that evening.

"Her family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"Our enquiries are ongoing, however the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious."
