Beloved thriller returning to screens next week – and the new series already has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score
BELOVED TV thriller True Detective is returning for its fourth season next week and fans are in for a treat as the series already has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.
The upcoming fourth season of True Detective, subtitled Night Country, which is coming to Sky next week, is set to debut with a 100% critical consensus rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The popular anthology thriller will see iconic star Jodie Foster take the lead as Detective Liz Danvers, alongside boxer turned actress Kali Reis who plays her partner Evangeline Navarro.
The trailer for Night Country teases the unlikely duo driving out to Alaska, where they must investigate the mysterious disappearance of eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station.
But it seems like both of the women know more than they’re letting on.
As bodies start to pile up and a strange symbol keeps cropping up every time there is a death, it looks like both detectives will have to face darkness from their pasts to bring the truth behind the murders to light.

Doctor Who’s Christopher Eccleston, Killing Eve’s Fiona Shaw, Deadwood’s John Hawkes, The Nevers’ Finn Bennett and The Grizzlies’ Anna Lambe also star in the six-episode series.
The cast have been praised for their performances in Season 4.
Also contributing to the success of Night Country is Issa López, who took over from Nic Pizzolatto as True Detective’s head writer. Nic wrote the first three seasons of the show and continues to be an executive producer.
At the time of writing this, the thriller has racked up almost 30 reviews from critics and they’re all extremely positive.
The reviews praise the new series for breaking the mould with its “riveting protagonists” and reviving the True Detective series.
“The season is creepy, moody, and effective. But it’s never dour, nor hopeless,” said one review.
“Jodie Foster, Kali Reis and writer/director Issa Lopez are a formidable team. This is the best Foster has ever been, which is saying something, while newcomer Reis explodes on the screen. While not perfect, this is worthy of the True Detective brand,” praised another.
A third added: “López’s vision breaks free of masculine stranglehold of the previous iterations as it binds history and present to women and is deeply embedded in the culture of women pushed to the margins.”
While a fourth gushed: “True Detective: Night Country returns to the quality of its superb first season, delivering a sinister odyssey of brutal murders in a frozen, unforgiving setting. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are riveting protagonists.”
“This instalment restores faith in True Detective itself,” agreed a fifth.
These reviews are a marked improvement after True Detective’s second season has a mere 47% on the Tomatometer. The third season did better and holds strong at 84%, but if series 4 continues to receive reviews in this vein, Night Country could eclipse the success of True Dectective’s first season, which has a 91% rating.
True Detective: Night Country premieres on Sky Atlantic and NOW on January 15 in the U.K. and a day earlier on Max in the U.S.
