A police van was seen parked in an alley, while a patrol car was seen in front of a property.

Police have now confirmed a baby tragically died just after emergency services arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to an address in Bishop Auckland at about 10am, yesterday (Sunday, December 10).

"Paramedics also attended, but sadly a baby died a short time later.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death, which are currently being treated as unexplained."

The tragedy comes after police launched another probe into the unconnected death of a baby in Ipswich.

Cops were called at 12.35pm on Saturday to reports that a newborn baby had been found outside Wilbury House in Ipswich.

Two men and a women and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jane Topping said: "This is a very sad and distressing incident.

"At this time, our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death is in its early stages.

"I would urge people not to speculate on social media as to the circumstances of this tragic event."
