Coronation Street’s Simon Barlow’s harrowing exit storyline revealed as he turns to booze

CORONATION Street’s Simon Barlow’s exit storyline appears to have been revealed.

The Sun exclusively revealed how actor Alex Bain will be leaving the ITV soap this year after 17 years playing Simon.

Now viewers have been watching Simon as he has struggled with his dad Peter Barlow’s exit without saying goodbye.

Fans know Peter left the cobbles over Christmas after becoming deeply unhappy in Weatherfield.

The recovering alcoholic is now sailing the seas on an all-world trip with some old pals.

But back at home Simon has been hitting the bottle and lashing out - just like his dad used to do.

In tonight’s episode Simon found himself in hot water at work after downing pints at lunch and messing around, forcing stepmum Carla to remind him that she’s the boss.

She sent him home and he tried to manipulate mum Leanne Battersby into fighting his battles for him - but she learned the truth and told him to get a grip of himself.

Sitting alone in the flat, Simon pulled out his phone to call his dad but he got his voicemail.

“Hiya dad,” he said.

“Just me again ringing up to see how you’re doing. I’ve no idea where you are, or even if you’ve got any phone signal - you’re in the middle of the ocean, aren’t you? 

“I just wanted to ring up to have a bit of a chat. It’s no biggie. Just wanted to see how you are. See ya.”

Alone and seemingly ignored by his dad, Simon pulled out another beer and cracked it open to begin drinking it alone.

But is he following in his dad’s footsteps and will his drinking develop into full blown alcoholism?
