Hong Kong taxi driver, 77, passenger injured after crashing into lamp post in Admiralty

Engine components and glass shards from the shattered windscreen were flung onto the nearby tram tracks.

Firefighters rescued the male passenger, 46, and the driver who were trapped inside the car after the crash damaged the taxi’s doors.

The Fire Services Department dispatched two fire trucks and an ambulance to the scene.

Both the passenger and the driver suffered slight injuries and were transported to Queen Mary Hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Westbound tram services were affected for over an hour as the vehicle obstructed the track, while eastbound services operated normally.

Passengers on the trams stuck behind the vehicle were seen alighting and walking along the tracks to the nearest stop at Admiralty station.

Two car lanes on Queensway were also shut down.

Traffic resumed to normal at about 10am.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau revealed in June that the number of taxi accidents jumped 26 per cent to 4,585 last year from 3,632 in 2022 and 4,153 in 2021.
