I bought a rich lady’s storage unit… I thought I hit the jackpot when I saw designer boxes but it wasn’t what I thought
IT'S always a gamble - buying abandoned storage units.
And while father and son duo The Prietos often hit the jackpot, they can come up empty-handed too.
They document their experiences on their TikTok page, and in a recent video, they showed themselves rifling through a "rich lady's" abandoned unit they won at auction for £165 ($210).
One of the main reason they wanted the unit was because it had three full suitcases inside, as well as numerous designer boxes.
But when they began looking in more detail, they soon discovered that the boxes were actually empty.
"Why couldn't they be in here?" he sighed.

"Wow, guys, look at this.
"This would have been crazy!
"We don't know - it might be in the luggage still."
He then went to another bag, inside which he found a bottle of bubbly and said, somewhat optimistically: "We can pop this later".
Next, he started unpacking one of the suitcases.
And while he got excited when he saw the Lululemon symbol on some packaging inside, he soon realised the rest of the case was a dud - bar a Nike hoodie.
"This first one's not looking too good," he said.
"We need there to be something good in these two to make our money back.
"Guys, pray for us!"
Opening the next case, he was disappointed to find even more clothes.
"Come on, where's the good stuff?" he exclaimed.
But he was luckier in the third suitcase, as he opened it to find a brand new pair of Jordan trainers.
"These actually might almost pay for the whole unit!" he said.
There was also a handbag within a dust bag, which turned out to be a leather Kate Spade bag.
And there were a lot of shoes, including a pair from Italy that were also in a dust bag - suggesting there might be some value to them.
The last thing he went through in the video was a big plastic box, inside which was Christmas bits and a "nice frying pan".
Concluding, he said he could get at least £158 for the trainers, and £39 for the Kate Spade bag.
"I'm gonna check the clothes," he said.
"Maybe we'll find some designer clothing."
Gesturing to the designer boxes, he added: "Sadly, all of the stuff was empty, but you can't win 'em all!"
Sharing the video on TikTok, he captioned it: "We almost hit the jackpot with this one!"
People were quick to comment on the video, with one writing: "That's a hide the shopping evidence from the husband unit!"
"Boxes have resell value," another said.
As a third agreed, writing: "The boxes and bags can go for 60 - 80 alone!"

"Honestly you could recoup a good portion of that money back just by selling the boxes and sack on Poshmark," someone else commented.
"I feel like they take all the good stuff before having u bid on a unit at this point," another said.
