A man called Peter was interviewed about his experience with taking up the sport at the age of 65.

He went on to detail his experiences with surfing the Severn Bore, which is a special kind of tidal wave.

As he was speaking, a caption appeared under his face saying 'second largest bore in the world'.

Although the BBC were referring to the wave, it certainly looked like poor Peter was being labelled boring for the nation to see.

Viewers were taken aback and flocked to X to speak in his defence.

One person wrote: "Sympathy for the poor chap on BBC Breakfast who found the caption 'Second largest bore in the world' beneath his image during a report on the Severn Bore. He's a septuagenarian surfer and therefore not boring at all!"

Another added: "BBC Breakfast seems a bit harsh."

A third joked: "Ha ha...poor guy will be carrying that with him for life..."

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay both rushed to apologise for the gaff once they saw the commentary.

Jon wrote: "Apologies to Peter - who was talking about the Severn Bore!"

Sally agreed: "I feel like we were a little harsh here this morning."
