‘Do not use’ warning over counterfeit straighteners urgently pulled from UK shelves due to ‘serious’ fire risk
AN URGENT warning has been issued to UK shoppers as major homeware stores urge customers to hand in dangerous counterfeit straighteners.
They have warned that the product is at risk of causing a fire or even exploding.
Homesense and TK Maxx have warned that the Elgetec Mini and Platinum Pro hair straighteners are a safety risk.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards have also stepped in to that the accessories contain “counterfeit” components.
The regulator said: "The product presents a risk of fire because the plug, fuse and cables are counterfeit, and are not of sufficient quality to protect against risks of overheating, fire or electric shock."
TK Maxx also issued their own urgent recall notice which read: "We are recalling the Elgetec branded hair straighteners due to a safety issue.

They also provided their customer service numbers and email addresses in order to support customers.
