Praise for Mitch McConnell is badly misplaced

He should have spent the remainder of his time as the Senate Republican leader atoning for the most egregious of his many failings — his refusal to steer the Senate to convict Donald Trump after the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He cynically characterized the Senate’s vote on the second impeachment as “political” and not criminal, thus clearing the way for Mr. Trump to run for office again. Instead, by endorsing Mr. Trump this week, Mr. McConnell abdicated his duty to make sure we’re not left to endure another Trump administration.
