Amy, who is known online as ‘The Lockdown Gardener’ took to social media to share her gardening trick, leaving many open-mouthed.

The gardening guru posted her clip with the caption ‘My five defence system for protecting plants from slugs.

‘Put in a pot, raise up on a metal stand, slather Vaseline on the stand and rim on the pot, copper scouring pads around the base of the plant and lastly some garlic spray!

“Five defences! I hope there's none living in the soil already as I will have just trapped them forever.’

In the short clip, Amy explained how she protects her Hostas from hungry slugs.

After putting her plant in a pot, which was raised on a metal stand, the UK-based gardening fan then added Vaseline, which you can nab for just 79p from Waitrose, all over the rim and legs of the stand.

Once this was done, she used copper scouring pads and put them around the base of the plant, acting as an extra defence.

Following this, she sprayed the plant with garlic spray, as she added: “I personally don’t think it works on its own, there’s too much rain where I live.

“But, together with the other defences, it seems to work quite well.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @thelockdowngardener, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 79,500 views.
