EAMONN Holmes didn't mince his words as he admitted he was "proud" to throw former This Morning anchor Phillip Schofield "under the bus"

The Northern Irish broadcaster, who himself fronted Friday episodes of the ITV daytime series alongside ex wife Ruth Langsford, 64, let rip on his GB News programme on Monday.

It came hours ahead of the first episode of Phillip's TV comeback - following an "ill advised" affair which destroyed his career - to be aired tonight

Veteran broadcaster Phil, 62, has swapped ITV for Channel 5 in scenes which will see him marooned on a desert island in Cast Away.

It is his first return to the small screen after he told how he was "stepping down" from his ITV daytime gig, when his affair with the runner was exposed.

Now Eamonn, 64 - who has long been embroiled in a bitter feud with Phil - has hit out on his Breakfast Show.

He was fronting the episode with co-host and pal Isabel Webster, who said Phil suggested he was "thrown under the bus" by his colleagues.

Eamonn was quick to interject: "Well if I'm one of the people who threw him under the bus I am very proud to have done it and protected children.

"People who are under age."

Eamonn then said the instance was being made out to be "one situation" and added: "I think he [Phil] is where he deserves to be."

Isabel read out a statement from Phil which had said his conduct wasn't illegal but was ill-advised.

Eamonn, whipping off his glasses, was eager to get stuck in further.

‘Coming out caused me more anguish than joy’, says Phillip Schofield

Referring to Phil he bluntly said: "This man is addicted to fame.

"Absolutely addicted to fame."

After the chat rumbled on he said: "I know people in junior positions in television and if I thought they were being taken advantage of in such a way then somebody needs to stand up and say 'people like him shouldn't exist and shouldn't be allowed.'"

Yet off-screen, Eamonn has also had his fair share of struggles of late.

Eamonn and Ruth's decision to divorce in May stunned fans.

They were then left fearing for Loose Women anchor Ruth after her ex touched down in Spain with new girlfriend Katie Alexander for a romantic getaway.

A source close to Phil has today told us: "Phil finds it ironic that Eamonn is slamming him and went for him after his affair with a younger man emerged… and now he’s been exposed for having a relationship with a younger woman."

TELLY TROUBLES

It came after Phil himself suggested he was "thrown under the bus" by ITV colleagues in a veiled dig at former co-star Holly Willoughby.

We exclusively reported his comments from the new documentary as he discussed how he was forced to leave This Morning after 22 years - and hinted at a lack of support from his long-time friend and co-host Holly, 43.

He says in the segment: “I miss parts of being on TV, certainly. I miss most of it, if I’m honest, I miss most of it.

“But there are bits that I really, really, really don’t miss.
