“I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100 percent right.”

Ruth, who presented This Morning on ITV1 with her hubby for 15 years, told how Eamonn endured an operation on his back which went wrong, confining him to a wheelchair. At one point, he fell and broke his shoulder.

In a further poignant sign of their plans to stay close, earlier this month Eamonn, 64, reposted a snap on Instagram of he and Ruth in happier times. A photographer had previously shared a picture of the couple, calling them, ‘The best in the business’.

The pair first met in 1997 when they were introduced by mutual friends and they dated for over a decade before Eamonn popped the question.

The post caused some followers to wonder if Ruth had joined him at the family event. "Where is your wife Eamonn Holmes?" one asked.

It emerged she spent the day enjoying an Easter egg hunt in the park followed by tucking into lunch at the pub with her friends.

Ruth had only publicly commented on Eamonn's health several days ago, saying her hubby would never be “100 per cent right”.
