Millie Bright returns to England squad as Aggie Beever-Jones gets call-up

Millie Bright is back in Sarina Wiegman’s squad for England’s Euro 2025 qualifiers against France, the Republic of Ireland and Sweden in June and July.

The 24-player squad, which also includes Bright’s Chelsea teammate Aggie Beever-Jones, will be used for the June camp, when England play back-to-back games against France, and the July camp, when England play the Republic of Ireland in Norwich before travelling to Sweden.

Four players have been placed on standby, including the goalkeeper Kayla Rendell, who plays in the Championship for Southampton. Liverpool’s Missy Bo Kearns, Tottenham’s Jess Naz and Manchester United’s Maya Le Tissier are the others on that list.

A squad was named for both windows to provide “clarity”, Wiegman said, with the games falling in the Women’s Super League off-season.

“After an intense season, we wanted to give the players clarity and help them to prepare for the Fifa windows in the best possible way, with the balance of performance and welfare as a priority,” the manager said. “We have had good conversations with the clubs, and we are grateful for their cooperation and support in helping the players to be fresh, fit and ready for two international matches on the highest level.

“Naming a player group of 28 provides us with different options across the four fixtures and is an opportunity for some new faces to impress and build new connections.”

As well as welcoming back Bright for the first time this year, the defender having featured for Chelsea in recent weeks on her return from injury, Wiegman has rewarded Beever-Jones. The forward has scored 11 league goals for Chelsea this season, second only to Lauren James and is fourth on the list of WSL top scorers.
