After sorting the engagement ring, once you get on with planning the wedding the next thing you'll need to do is decide where to buy your wedding rings.

Wedding rings are exchanged during the vows as a symbol of your love for each other.

Typically both parties wear a wedding ring on the ring finger of their left hand, although sometimes people choose not to wear one day-to-day for practical or comfort reasons.

There are lots of different styles of wedding rings to choose from, from traditional plain bands to jewelled eternity designs – some may even decide upon a vintage or antique ring to symbolise your love.

Where is the best place to buy wedding rings?

When buying a wedding ring it's best to shop at a reputable jeweller or retailer to ensure that you're getting a quality product and that your purchase is protected.

Some of our favourite places to buy wedding rings include Ernest Jones, Beaverbrooks, H. Samuel and Tiffany.

Hopefully, the suggestions above will give you an idea of a place to start.

Of course, these are all if you want to buy a new wedding ring; if you're looking for a vintage or antique band instead, you're best to approach independent jewellers or retailers that specialise in sourcing older jewellery.

Where to buy affordable wedding rings

When buying such a special item of jewellery you will want to ensure it's high quality and long-lasting, but that doesn't mean it has to break the bank.

There are lots of great options at high street stores such as Ernest Jones, H. Samuel and Fraser Hart, and you can easily find a wedding ring for under £100 – especially if you're after a plain band, which will be cheaper than one set with stones.

Of course, affordable means different things to different people, so it's a good idea to think about what is a realistic budget before shopping.

Where to buy cheap wedding rings

If you're on a budget then the big high street retailers are your best bet if you're looking for a cheaper wedding ring – prices at Ernest Jones start from £50 and H. Samuel just £25, for example.

You also don't have to buy a specific wedding ring, in fact any ring can be a wedding ring, and you might find a design that takes your fancy from other affordable jewellery shops like Abbot Lyon, Lily & Roo and Monica Vinader.

Another way to save money on a wedding ring is to give a family heirloom; it might not cost you anything but will be full of sentiment and meaning.

Where to buy antique wedding rings

Rather than buying a brand new wedding ring, you may instead want to get married with an antique wedding ring. Maybe it suits your engagement ring or personal style better? Or perhaps you're looking for something with a bit of a story behind it.

If you want to see the ring in person you could start by searching for where to buy antique wedding rings near you – including local jewellers, auction houses and pawn shops.

Several national websites specialise in old jewellery, such as The Antique Jewellery Company and Cavendish Jewellers.

Alternatively check out Etsy, which has a huge array of unique antique designs from independent sellers.

Where to buy men's wedding rings

It can be tricky to know where to start looking for wedding rings for men, especially if the groom doesn't usually wear a lot of jewellery but we've found some great options at lots of the retailers above.

On the high street, stores such as H. Samuel, Ernest Jones and Fraser Hart have a great range of men's wedding rings for all prices, from plain bands to intricate or diamond-encrusted designs.

At the other end of the spectrum, there's Tiffany; you may think that Tiffany specialises in big sparkly engagement rings but it also sells a good selection of simple yet luxurious men's wedding bands.

And for the cool groom, we also know a few men who have bought their wedding rings from rock 'n' roll London jeweller The Great Frog.

Where to buy vintage wedding rings

Buying a vintage wedding ring is similar to buying an antique one — you may need to cast your net wider than the usual jewellery stores to find what you're looking for.

We love some of the designs at Fetheray and The London Victorian Ring Co.

Another option is to buy a new ring that has a vintage style – for example, this £300 wishbone design from The Diamond Store.

The H. Samuel website also has a whole section on vintage-style wedding rings, with over 50 designs to choose from.
