Cops confirmed the teen was quickly overpowered by teachers just as police arrived.
Dozens of officers, ambulances and emergency crews rushed to the school to help those injured.
Police secured off the area outside of the school as they continue to investigate the incident.
Officials don't believe the attack was terror related with the teen not being on any police or intelligence radars.
It is still unclear if the student attended the school.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau is expected to arrive at the scene later this afternoon.
Former French prime minister turned education minister Elisabeth Borne also announced she was heading to the school.
She said via X: "A knife attack took place this afternoon at a private school in Nantes.
"I am going there with @BrunoRetailleau to express my solidarity with the victims and my support for the educational community."
