‘People think it’s designer’ shoppers beam over M&S handbag that’s a dupe for the Hermès Kelly but over £10k cheaper
THE word dupe gets thrown around a lot these days but every now and again, a truly cash-saving one crops up on the high-street.
This time, it’s a handbag from Marks & Spencer which can save you well over £10,000 than if you were to buy the designer version.
The department retailer’s Faux Leather Top Handle Tote Bag has been dubbed a dead ringer for the Hermès Kelly Sellier 28cm Bag in Black Epsom Leather.
And while it’s unclear how much the luxury handbags sell for brand new (you have to be part of an exclusive club to be offered one), versions are being flogged for well over £10,000 on second-hand sites.
Sellier Knightsbridge has the bag listed at £16,450 with Palladium Hardware on its website.
But the M&S version costs just £39.50.

According to buyers, people "genuinely mistake it for designer” when they wear it out.
The handbag is 27cm wide, only 1cm off the Hermès version, and 21.5cm tall and 10.5cm deep.
It has a twist lock fastening but is made from polyurethane, rather than real leather like the luxury version.
“This versatile faux leather bag can be carried by the top handles or worn across the body for a more relaxed look,” M&S bosses said.
“You can adjust the long strap to achieve the perfect fit or remove it completely for an alternative look.
“Undo the twist lock on the flap closure to reveal two internal compartments and a handy slip pocket to keep your items neatly organised.”
One review on the high-street store’s website says “the high quality of the materials make it look far more expensive than it is”.
“Super bag that I have received numerous compliments on,” a second penned.
“People genuinely think it’s designer.
“So, I’ve now ordered the beige one.”
“An elegant looking bag that looks more expensive than what it is,” a third reviewed.
“It’s very roomy inside and has a shoulder strap which is great.”
