‘Bridget Jones core’ fashion fans scream about return of ‘granny pants’ trend – and some even think it’s ‘chic’
AFTER hot pants hit the runways in the Nineties, they quickly became a wardrobe mainstay for millions of British women.
And now, thanks to the phenomenon of 25 to 30 year trend cycles, they’re back.
Shoppers have shared mixed reviews since spotting Mango’s “decorative stitching shorts” as part of its Heritage Collection in stores.
The tailored mini-shorts have a low waist, decorative seams and lace details weaved throughout - just like the 30-year-old pair discarded at the bottom of your wardrobe.
“The MNG Heritage collection is inspired by our most iconic designs from the Nineties,” Mango bosses explained.
“Reinterpreted pieces from our own archives, more contemporary than ever.”

Fashion fans aren’t sure how to feel about the trend’s resurgence - with one shopper even saying it’s return was “Bridget Jones core”.
And they have a point: Renée Zellweger’s get up from the 2001 rom-com is etched in all of our minds.
In the scene, Bridget Jones rocks up to a fancy dress party in a saucy bunny outfit - complete with black hot pants - to discover it isn’t fancy dress at all.
But thanks to Mango, you probably won’t have to wait for a fancy dress party to slip into a pair.
Content creator Nicole M took to TikTok to alert others to the Nineties staple hitting the high-street.
"If you dare, run to Mango," she penned.
One of her viewers dubbed the style “so chic”, while another said she “loves them so much”.
But a third warned that “those look like granny panties”.
Hot pants made a brief return to shelves in the 2010s, with another shopper saying she “loved these back in 2012”.
The new Mango shorts are only available in sizes 6 to 12 at present.
One pair will set you back £35.99 and they’re made from 90% polyester and 10% elastane.
This week’s Copenhagen catwalks were bursting with similar styles too.
To make them look chic, fashionistas were pairing the bum-riders with oversized blazers and structured hoodies.
