Hong Kong’s National Day fireworks to feature panda themes and opening drone show
Hong Kong’s fireworks display on October 1 will feature panda themes and an opening drone show for the first time as the city celebrates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The show’s organiser said on Friday the 23-minute fireworks display over Victoria Harbour would portray eight scenes designed to honour the country’s achievements, spread joy and celebrate the arrival of two baby panda cubs and a pair of adults gifted by Beijing to the city.
The display, which will cost HK$18 million (US$2.3 million), will start with a display of red stars and purple flowers, in a nod to elements used in the Chinese and local flags.
The song “Yellow River Cantata” will be played to evoke the grandeur of China’s landscapes, according to the organiser.
One of the show’s highlights will be fireworks creating green sparkles and cascading waterfalls to give the impression of bamboo forests, the panda’s natural habitat, as the song “Kung Fu Fighting” by Cee Lo Green plays.
