‘No excuse for a home to be so dirty’ mum who lives in a garage is savagely shamed but says she’s ‘living her best life’

A WOMAN has been savagely slammed for showing off the mess in her garage studio.

Beatriz Gonzalez, a mum-of-two, lives with her husband and their children in a tiny garage home.

However, it wasn’t the size of the home that left social media users stunned - it was the clutter and rubbish covering the floors and surfaces.

Posting online, Beatriz gave her followers a tour around her home.

Whilst the home might be small, with just one bedroom for the family-of-four to share, Beatriz claimed that she is “living large” and is living her “best life” with her brood.

The open-plan space is complete with a kitchen area - but social media users were left open-mouthed by the mass of dirty dishes in the sink and the mess on the counters.

The home also has a bathroom area with a small shower, toilet, sink, as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer in the corner.

As well as this, there’s also a living area, complete with a sofa, double bed and small child’s bed.

Proud of her garage home, Beatriz wrote: “Family of four living in a 20x20 garage studio.”

Beatriz confessed that she would indeed be giving her home a scrub, as she added: “A quick before: time to clean our home!”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @beatrizgonzalez1237, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has racked up 165,600 views.

BIG DIVIDE

But social media users were left totally divided by the clip - whilst some were more focused on the mess, others praised the ‘beautiful’ space.

I turned my parents garage into a bedroom for me and my family to live in - it only cost £1250 to do and Ikea came up trumps for the renovations

One person said: “Just clean it, it would look better.”

Another added: “No excuse for a home to be that dirty.”

You can make it a home, just clean it

A third commented: “It would probably look great if you would straighten it up.

"I mean the size doesn’t really matter, you can make it a home, just clean it.”

Are you allowed to convert a garage into a bedroom?

USING average house price figures from Zoopla, Admiral Loans crunched the numbers and worked out that each square foot of living space is worth £350 on average.

Typically, the size of a small single garage in the UK is 128 square feet making the additional space worth £45,000.

A standard conversion costs between £4,995 and £7,500 depending on what work you have done, according to householdquotes.co.uk, which will of course eat into your profits.

If the garage is attached to your home you won't even need to pay for planning permission, which currently costs £206.

The work falls under "permitted development rules", which allows you to make certain changes to your home as long as it's within limits.

This is because you're not really altering the outside dimensions of the building.

But you will need to apply to the local authority if your garage is separate to your house, you live in a flat or maisonette or in a listed building.

It's worth checking before starting any work that there aren't any planning conditions attached to your property - you can do this by writing to the local authority.

If you plough on with building work that actually required permission, you may be ordered to take it down.

Whilst someone else chimed in: “Be nicer if you cleaned it.”

However, at the same time, others were keen to compliment Beatriz’s set up.

A second chimed in: “Wow!! It looks like you are blessed to have a nice roof over your head with your family.”
