We binned off our two-bed flat to live in a van and it’s so cheap – we save £1.1K a month and here’s how
A COUPLE have revealed that they ditched living in a two bedroom flat for a ‘nomad lifestyle’.
Destiny and Elizabeth, also known as Dee and Liz, explained that thanks to their life on the road, they save over £1,100 every month.
Not only do they no longer have hefty electricity bills, but they have also saved on car insurance too.
And if that wasn’t enough, their rent is now less than half thanks to their tiny home on wheels.
The two ‘wives living our best lives’ in the United States took to social media to share a breakdown of their monthly expenses compared to when they lived in an apartment, alongside their costs now in their van.
The couple said: “Want to know van life is cheaper than apartment living? Here's what we spend in a month living in our van full time.

“We used to pay $1,908 [£1,508] for rent in our two bedroom apartment in California, but now our van payment is $758 [£599].
“Surprisingly our gas was more expensive living in an apartment since we commuted to work 80 miles a day.
“Our phone bill and groceries have stayed the same.
“Laundry varies each month but never exceeds $20 [£15.80].
“Our water bill we used to pay was around $50 [£39.50] in our apartment - in our van we usually can find free water fills but prefer primo water.
“We used to pay $70 [£55.30] for spectrum WiFi and now we pay $135 [£106.70] for Starling.
“Car insurance for both our cars was $258 [£203.95] and now we pay $67 [£52.96] for our van insurance.
“Electricity in our apartment ranged around $90 [£71.15], but having solar in our van makes it free.
“In our apartment we had a gym so didn't pay for a membership, but now we pay $25 [£19.76] for Planet Fitness.
“Our monthly expenses have changed a lot, but here's the final cost for two people living in a van versus when we lived in an apartment.”
The couple then revealed that their total apartment costs came to $3,149 [£2,490], whereas van life costs them just $1,750 [£1,383.10].
As a result, the couple are saving £1,106.90 every month as a result of van life.

In another clip, the duo gave their followers a tour around their van, which they claimed to have converted themselves.
The pair explained: “Welcome to our tiny home on wheels.
“We have a bar top to expand our space outdoors.
“We have an air fryer, a regular dorm fridge and a lot of storage options for our kitchen supplies.
“We built this van on our own with the help of YouTube.
“Here’s our couch which we love and can be used as a guest bed.
“Under our seats we have tons of storage.”
If you’re wondering where the toilet is, the duo then added: “Down below is our slide out cassette toilet.
“We have a full-size fixed bed and an upper cabinet which is where we store our clothes.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @choosethepathyoutake, has clearly left many impressed, as it has quickly amassed 10,300 views.
Social media users were thankful for the breakdown of the costs and were stunned at the tiny home.
One person said: “This is so thorough! Love seeing the numbers.”
