Man arrested over A61 horror crash that wiped out two families & left girl, 11, an orphan
A MAN has been arrested over a horror crash that destroyed two separate families and left an 11-year-old girl orphaned.
Shannen Morgan, Shane Roller, and sisters Rubie, nine, and Lillie, four, were all killed in the smash on the A61 on Sunday.
They were travelling in a Ford Focus when they collided with Christopher Barton, 56, and wife Janine, 48, who were on a motorbike.
Their son has now been left without his parents, along with Shane and Shannen's 11-year-old daughter Poppie.
Police today confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Officers also revealed they are looking for anyone who saw a grey coloured Porsche 911 at the time of the crash to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Steven Suggitt said: “I would like to appeal for anyone who may have seen this grey Porsche 911 being driven on the roads around the south of Wakefield or north of Barnsley to please contact us.
“I would also urge anyone who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage of this car, that may assist our investigation, to please contact us.”
The horror unfolded on Sunday afternoon when the family car and BMW S100 XR motorbike collided between Barnsley and Wakefield.
Shannen, 30, Shane, 33, and their daughters Rubie and Lillie were all declared dead at the scene.
The couple's eldest daughter Poppie, 11, had not joined her family for a day out and was instead at a friend's home at the time.
A GoFundMe launched to help the schoolgirl has now received more than £343,000 in donations.
Family friend Paul Hepple launched the page to help Poppie after she "lost her whole world in an instant".
He wrote: "Despite her unimaginable loss, she shows incredible strength every day."
Tributes have flooded in from Shane and Shannen's loved ones, who vowed to look after the youngster.
Shane's brother Callum said he was "lost for words", adding: "I’m absolutely heartbroken. I’m gonna miss all of you! You all had a heart of gold. My heart is ripped into a million pieces!"
Shannen's pal Chelsea Element wrote: "You are and always will be one of my closest friends.
"There are no words to describe the utter loss this has created for family/friends and the community around us.
"I hope you're at peace Shannen Morgan and Shane Roller, with your beautiful girls.
"Everyone will always look after [the eldest girl], she will never want for anything she has the love of everyone."
While Christopher and Janine's son paid tribute to the couple, who had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
