Two children among 6 killed in horror crash between motorcyclist and car

SIX people including two children have died in a collision between a car and a motorbike.

The traffic accident happened on the A61 Barnsley Road between Wakefield and Barnsley this afternoon.

Emergency services received reports of a crash involving a Ford Focus car and a motorcycle at 3.54pm.

A man and a woman along with a boy and a girl, who were travelling in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A man and a woman who were on the motorcycle were also confirmed dead.

The road has been closed between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane, West Yorkshire Police said.

Superintendent Alan Travis of Wakefield District Police said: "This is an absolutely tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives. 

"Our thoughts go out to the families of those who have died who we are working with to provide support at this time."

Officers are asking any witnesses to come forward.
