How giving your car’s boot a spring clean could save you £100s every year
GIVING your car's boot a spring clean could save you hundreds of pounds every year.
The clever tip comes from a motor expert who claims you can save dosh by simply removing any "unnecessary belongings" from your whip.
Drivers who are still cruising around in petrol or diesel powered motors can reduce how much they're using by decreasing the weight of their car.
According to specialist insurance broker, ChoiceQuote, engines have to work harder if they need to lug around more weight, so having items in your car that don't need to be there is costing you money.
The insurance company stressed that if drivers want to save money on the ever-growing costs of fuel, they should have a clear out of their motor as soon as possible, reports the Express.
The firm said: “The more weight you have in your car, whether that be in the boot or on the back seat, the harder your engine will have to work to get up to speed."
They went on to explain that even if you're planning on doing a full clear out, that having a quick look inside your car before setting off on any journey can help.
The advice has been backed up by motor marketplace Auto Trader, who explained that drivers that carry a bike on their roof, or use a roof rack can cause "drag".
They explained that driving with them on top of the car when they don't need to be can put drivers at risk of inefficiencies, like burning through fuel quicker than it would normally drain.
A third motor firm chipped in as well, experts at LeaseVan shared the same sentiment and advised drivers that if they have something like "a set of tools" in their car and don't need them to "leave them at home".
The hatrick of warnings come as fuel prices continue to take off all over the country.
According to RAC Fuel Watch, fees for unleaded rose by 5p in January, from 140.45p to 145.45p per litre.
As well as that , Diesel costs have been shifting up since January, from 147,62p to 154.13p as of this week.
The good news, however, is that RAC Fuel Watch has suggested that prices are showing "no change in forecast" in the near future.
