We converted a campervan into a home but it wasn’t as cheap as people say it is – & drying clothes is an utter nightmare

A THRIFTY couple have shared the reality of living in a tiny campervan - and it's not as fun as social media makes it out to be.

Over the last few years, we've seen a huge rise in people ditching their homes for life on the road - whether that's living in a car or transforming an old van into a mini studio space.

There have also been plenty of extra costs going out, such as forking out for their 'extortionate' garage appointment

But although it does come with a lot of freedom and there have been plenty of success stories, there are times where van life ''sucks'' - at least according to one couple, Will and Meebs.

The duo, believed to be from the USA, started their journey in May, 2022 and have since documented their experience on TikTok, sharing the good - and the bad.

The two, who post under the username @vanonamission, claimed there have been several instances where they considered quitting the so-called van life.

The first time Will and Meeds realised that life on the road might not be the perfect fir for them was not long after getting their hands on the vehicle.

At the time, the couple had ''accidentally'' cut off ''very important door bolts'' - and this happened just a week after buying the van.

''The whole door slid off,'' the van lovers said in the clip.

Unfortunately for the adventure fanatics, the worries didn't end there, as they also found themselves brutally ''scammed'' on Facebook.

According to Will and Meeds, they had forked out for ''an expensive gas heater'' off Facebook Marketplace - however, after not receiving it for a while, they were told the seller had allegedly ''died''.

In reality, after being messed with for three months, the couple discovered that the person was very much alive - and they had simply fallen for a scam.

The first night in the van was also a bumpy ride, as there was a huge storm, and they were ''so worried about the lighting and the wind''.

''Was honestly questioning everything at this point.''

Just two weeks later they faced yet another issue - their new home breaking down - which meant they had to ''abandon'' their travels across the country for a whopping two months, as they were waiting for a ''garage appointment''.

At the end of this, the young duo were then presented with a rather hefty bill - and although they haven't disclosed to total costs, it was described as ''extortionate''.

Looking back at their journey, the two said: ''The start of the trip and adjusting to living in a van was hard.

''The mental exhaustion of moving every day, not finding appropriate places to park and not feeling entirely safe,'' the couple bravely opened up.

'Turning up to park-ups only to find out they aren't totally appropriate - unsafe, closed off, too muddy.

''Driving for hours in the middle of the night.''

In terms of working on the side, there have also been instances where their internet box has decided to ''implode'' on the two - and as they don't have an address, it'd be difficult to arrange a delivery for a new one.

To make matters even more challenging, attempting to dry laundry is a whole other issue, the duo said.

Although they do occasionally pay to get it done professionally, Will and Meeds revealed that it's not always gone smoothly.

Once, for example, they'd forked out for a launderette - but despite waiting for two hours and spending money it it, they came back ''to sopping wet clothes''.

''Tried to dry clothes outside but they froze instead.''

But despite all of this - as missing their pals and family dearly - they ''love'' their tiny home on wheels.

''We just think it's important to show both sides.''
