I’m a traveller but there’s so many ‘wannabe gypsies’ out there – Chanel & sparkly furniture are dead giveaways to start
A WOMAN has revealed that there are many ways you can spot a ‘wannabe gypsy’ and it starts with their home decor.
Charlotte Ann, a traveller, explained that wannabe gypsies will have Chanel homeware and sparkly furniture - but she claimed that this isn’t true traveller style.
Posting on social media, Charlotte shared pictures of items that you would find in a wannabe gypsy’s home, versus the things that you would find in a proper traveller’s space.
She said: “What wannabe travellers think our culture is like and how they interpret it through their style, versus what traveller culture is really like.
“We will start with decor.”
First of all, Charlotte showed off some Chanel-esque tableware, as she explained: “This is what they have - they love themselves some Chanel.”

However, she then showed off what travellers actually prefer, as she added: “This is the real tea set that we’re rocking. I don’t know a traveller or gypsy that doesn’t like Crown Derby. You can’t go wrong.”
When it comes to furniture, Charlotte claimed that while wannabes will have crushed velvet, the traveller style is much more ‘classic’.
She revealed: “Next - furniture. They love some glitter and some glam. This [crushed velvet] is what they think our living room and dining rooms really look like.
“This is the style we’re really going for. It’s classic, it’s nice, it comes in different colours. It’s detailed. It’s a bit boujee but it’s subtle at the same time.
“Every time I see one of these [Chanel] tables, I get heartburn, because literally in the description of some of the photos it says ‘gypsy coffee table’.”
Charlotte then explained that many travellers will have mats in their home - but instead of covered in logos, they are plain.
She shared: “Next we have mats - anything with a logo on it, the wannabes, they adore, they love.
“A nice German mat, you can't go wrong with a washable mat for the living room. For a trailer, you can’t go wrong with a German rug.”
Charlotte then showed off a large silver vase, as she explained: “This is not a vase you would ever see in a true, authentic gypsy home.
“You would be seeing this - a Waterford Crystal or a Crown Derby vase. You wouldn’t be seeing that glittery number.”
Finally, Charlotte spoke about gypsy-style jewellery, as she concluded: “This is my pet hate - gold-plated bangles.
“These are a cultural thing, you are buying the dupes in masses and are ruining the look of the actual bangle.
“Bangles are not gold-plated. Versus a real bangle - the difference is substantial.
“The moral of the story kids - there’s a lot of people who are not travellers and gypsies, showing you traveller culture, when it’s not traveller culture.
“It’s cultural appropriation, it’s wrong. You cannot pretend to be another ethnicity, regardless of what that ethnicity is.
“I am so done with this.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @charlotteann00, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 57,100 views in just 16 hours.
Many social media users agreed with Charlotte and were keen to express this in the comments.
One person said: “Spot on.”
Another added: “Facts!!!!!!”
A third commented: “Love it! The wannabe style is just vulgar in comparison to the classic gypsy style that’s beautiful.”
