I wax for a living – the 4 most disgusting requests from clients, including wanting to keep other people’s hairy strips

From bums that haven't been cleaned to kinky customers, Stephanie Laynes, a waxer for twenty years has seen it all.

While you may have thought you were scared jumping on the treatment chair - it turns out your waxer has way more to be frightened of.

Speaking to Fabulous the professional waxer recalled some of the worst moments of her job and revealed it sure isn't for the faint-hearted.

Talking on clients, Stephanie reveals: "70% are fine, its the 30% that are memorable - and makes you question staying the industry."

She revealed she deals with all matters of bodily fluids, but she made it viral on social media after discussing that too many clients were coming in without cleaning themselves properly.

"It’s nothing new for me, people aren’t used to the frankness of how I say it - you clean yourself or you don’t," she says.

While some viewers were left furious by her comments - Stephanie reveals it's important to have boundaries with clients - and not wiping their bum clean is one of them.

And no, it's not mostly men who have 'poop butt' - it's women as well she says.

Stephanie became a master of the seven-minute Brazilian wax technique - but she didn't get there without hard work and some horrifying stories to tell.

The waxer began training by putting an advertisement on Craigslist for people form all walks of life to come and get a wax for free while she trained.

But of course, bringing in people from Craigslist was bound to throw out some weird clients.

"The ones that you attract for doing it for free, you’ve got to be ready for a bit of crazy," she explains.

"I don't suggest aesthetician do it now, but I had to train and have people volunteer - so it had to be free."

On more than one occasion - Stephanie has dealt with men asking to keep total strangers' hairy wax strips and taking them form the bin.

While one of her client's was polite enough to ask first - she revealed another was caught rummaging through the bin to find some and sell them online.

"They made an appointment with me, and just said 'every day, can I come in and get your trash and have your wax strips?'

"I asked is this a joke - but when I realised it was serious I just asked them to leave."

Another time a man asked Stephanie if she was able to just wax around the base as he said the condom would slip off otherwise.

While he was meant to be modelling getting a full Brazilian - he changed his mind when he got on the table while Stephanie was training other waxers.

"The hair ain't gunna keep your condom on, you need a different size," thought Stephanie.

Other times, Stephanie has had experience with less fun clients that have left her in horrible situations.

She recalls: "He would stand behind the door, erect and trying to jump on me while nine months pregnant and it was also broad daylight."

"I gave him another chance, the second time, he was on the bed but just giddy like a little kid," she explains.

After that, she told him he wasn't to come back, but she revealed it was rampant in the industry leading many female waxers to ban male clients all together.

"It's so hard for us as aestheticians and waxers - you can't really judge a person because their character changes when their clothes come off."

"The clothes in my opinion, is the biggest barrier if they're going to have that kind of behaviour - the inhibitions go with the clothes too," she says.

"It’s a safety issue but you never know what you’re getting, you think they're put together they're in a three-piece suit, and then they're laying there with no clothes on and you're like 'wait a minute, this is not the same person who came in here."

Stephanie adds that she also has had a fair few experiences with the kink community while waxing - from having to wax around a chastity cage to calling clients' mistresses for approval.

Despite the sometimes odd requests - Stephanie admits it doesn't bother her as most members of the BDSM community are big on boundaries.

"The kink community is big on consent, boundaries, communication, its the others, the crazies.

While Stephanie has had her fair share of gross, scary and downright weird experiences in her 20-year career, she wouldn't switch her job for anything.

Now a successful business woman with her own brand of waxing supplies and body care products, Se-Brazil, Stephanie has become a leading expert in her field.

Here she also shares her top five tips for those wanting a wax and how to make sure it doesn't hurt.

Top tips for waxing

  • The longer the hair the better - Stephanie recommends not waxing for at least three weeks for a cleaner wax
  • Stick with it - even if it hurts, you only get 12 services a year and it will become less frequent the more you do it
  • Aftercare is just as important as it gets you ready for the next wax
  • Don't use fragranced products straight after a wax, the skin is too sensitive
  • Never attempt to use a razor near your bum - it often leads to cuts and scars
  • Waxing is painful on dehydrated skin - so make sure you keep it well moisturised
