Tottenham and Aston Villa have been linked with the Three Lions international recently.

Meanwhile so too have Atletico Madrid as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming LaLiga season.

According to Diario AS in Spain, this led Gallagher to seek advise from former Atletico full-back Kieran Trippier.

He is said to have quizzed Trippier on life in the Spanish capital and under manager Diego Simeone.

And Trippier is believed to have given Gallagher glowing reviews while urging him to take up the opportunity if it arises.

In a separate report from Tutto Mercatoweb in Italy, it is claimed Gallagher "will do everything" to join Atletico.

The boyhood Blue made 50 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino last season and was even trusted with the captain's armband.

But after Pochettino's departure, Gallagher's future under new manager Enzo Maresca appeared immediately in doubt.

Maresca brought over Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester into an already crammed Chelsea midfield.

So it leaves Gallagher fighting for his place in the squad or searching for a new club.
