I live in a van & got a composting toilet – it’s been nice not having to wheel our poop through a park to the dump point

ONE family living life on the road has made things a bit more comfortable by having a compost toilet installed in their van.

They said it's been a relief not having to wheel their poop through a park to the dump point.

However, the concept of compost toilet arrangements is proving to be an alien one to their followers.

They cannot believe their van does not stink.

The Rosa (@the.rosa.reno) made a valiant effort trying to explain.

But some commenters refused to be convinced and said this was a comfort break too far for them.

Rosa, her husband, and their toddler daughter live life on the road in their converted van.

Over 26,000 followers have watched as they chronicle their life outside the mainstream.

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, they built their home on wheels to try and live a more sustainable life.

It's not always a picnic and occasionally the toilet has to be emptied.

But it's not as bad as it might sound, and, despite concerns from commenters over lingering bad odors, there is no smell.

“Why haven’t you emptied your toilet in six months?” she asked herself in her post.

There is little privacy surrounding this restroom.

It sits in full view of the rest of the van.

But, she says, "it's only for emergencies," and everyone exits the bus when there are bowel movements.

Nonetheless, it still takes a deep breath to empty it.

“Not going to lie, it was nice not having to wheel our poop through a caravan part to the dump point," she said.

“It’s a composting toilet. It’s pretty much dirt now," she added.

Compost Toilets USA explained how they worked.

"Modern composting toilets offer an environmentally friendly and odor-free method of dealing with human waste," they said.

"A true composting toilet produces a safe, non-toxic final product that can be placed on ornamental plants, and no toxic sludge is produced," they added.

One commenter also had a compost toilet.

“I have a compost toilet in my house and it’s never been emptied," she said.

“That’s actually a great way to decompose your waste," said another person.

But some were never going to be convinced.
