However, while they may make your home look Pinterest-worthy, professionals have said that they can create more of a hassle in homes than you may wish.

Not only can they be tricky to clean, but can also show unsightly fingerprints too.

The issue was raised on Facebook after a woman who admired the sleek black look asked for inspiration.

While many people were quick to offer up images of their own taps, toilets, showers and bathtubs, one person chimed in with her advice from a builder.

She wrote: “Love black too but my builder told me to stay away unless I love cleaning.

“He said the fingerprints and smudges would drive me crazy. He did it in his place and regrets it now.”

One person had similar reservations on Reddit, saying: “'I love the look of black fixtures.

“Yesterday I was told by a salesperson to avoid them because they aren't very durable and look terrible over time.”

Meanwhile, professional cleaner Kate Croukamp previously gave her views on why the black feature trend should be avoided.

She claimed that black taps and sinks are a “terrible” idea due to the potential for calcium build up.

My council house was literally a shell when I moved in - I gave the bathroom a mega makeover with DIY, my tiles cost £6

Kate explained: “They look amazing but they're a nightmare to clean and every single finger and mark can be seen.”

She said they are especially hard if you have kids, as food stains and fingerprints tend to linger on black fittings.

She also advised against glass shutter windows, vertical blinds, trench drains and mirrored splashbacks.

According to B&Q, black taps were predicted to be a top trend this year.
