Johanna Constantinou is an interior trends expert at the British company Tapi Carpets & Floors.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared several must-try tips for revamping your home.

QUICK FIX

Constantinou said updating hardware around the house can instantly enhance the space.

This includes swapping outdated drawer pulls, cabinet handles, and doorknobs for stylish, modern alternatives.

“This simple change can take around an hour, and instantly elevate the look of furniture and doors, making them look expensive,” she said.

POWERFUL PAINT

Constantinou recommended opting for a “sophisticated” color palette when painting walls.

She said good quality paint will make rooms look expensive even if bought on a budget.

She revealed rich bursts of color can make a dramatic difference even if the entire room isn’t painted.

Five things making your home look cheap

“Accent walls or decorative painting techniques, such as color blocking or stenciling, are a great way to make your home look expensive without breaking the bank as they add interest and style to your space,” she said.

“Layering rugs is also another great option as they can add depth and visual interest to a space.

“Choose a large, inexpensive rug as a base and layer it with a smaller, more decorative rug to create a luxurious and expensive feel.”

LESS IS MORE

Constantinou said it doesn’t cost anything to refresh the aesthetic of your home by moving furniture around.

She said this simple hack can elevate your room and create a more spacious feel.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make that make your home look cheap is having lots of clutter.

“Maximizing light instantly makes a space seem bigger, so ensure your furniture doesn’t block the light and move any mirrors in your home to face opposite a window,” she said.

“You could move the positioning of any sofa or chairs, pull your furniture out from your wall, or blinds instead of curtains, make use of awkward, hidden storage, and invest in dual-use furniture.

“This will create a more spacious, interesting, and expensive-looking space.”

Constantinou said also don’t be afraid to get rid of clutter as it makes your home look cheap.

She recommended opting for minimal decor in every room.

“You don’t need to get rid of it all either – store pieces you can’t bear to part with in your loft or garage if you can,” she said.
