I repaired my heat damaged hair with a DIY mask – it needed some TLC, don’t look at me sideways for the 3 ingredients
A BEAUTY guru has revealed the three ingredients she mixes to make a mask that repairs heat damaged hair.
She said routinely using the homemade haircare product has stimulated growth and strengthened her tresses.
Faith Pelerin (@faithpelerin) has garnered over 11,500 followers on TikTok, where she shares self-care tips.
She ran her fingers through her hair and stretched her curls to show the length before revealing the homemade mask she uses to keep her locks healthy.
“Today I’m gonna show you guys the DIY protein mask that I do on my hair when it needs some strength,” she said.
“This is my hair right now, it’s been in a ponytail for a few days and now needs some love and care.”
Faith put one egg in a plastic container, followed by one scoop of mayonnaise, and extra virgin olive oil.
“I kind of eyeball everything,” she said showing the ingredients.
“I don’t use measurements but I’d say that much is a good amount.”
The beauty enthusiast mixed the ingredients with a plastic fork until it became a smooth yellow consistency.
“I just apply this directly to my scalp and hair, which I’m going to do in the bathroom.
“If your hair feels stringy or weak, definitely try this out.
“I know some people are like ugh egg and mayonnaise that’s crazy, but I’ve done this throughout my whole hair growth journey.
“It has strengthened my hair each and every time. It’s brought my hair back to life.
“I leave it in for about 30 minutes to an hour, an hour is best if you can.
“Then I just shampoo it out and wash my hair like normal, shampoo, condition, deep condition.
“Everybody’s hair needs are different but I just say for ballpark maybe try this out every two or three months because it’s just that powerful.
“Try it out and let me know what you think.”
Faith continued to rave about how effective the hair mask is in the caption of her video.
“I used this on my heat-damaged hair that wouldn’t curl, and now we’re at mid-back length, thriving!!” she wrote.
She recommended also using moisturizing oils such as argan, avocado, or jojoba as part of haircare routines.
“Strong hair breaks less when styling and detangling, which can help you retain a TON of length,” she said.
Over 2,500 viewers liked the post and many took to the comment section to share their experiences of using the DIY hair mask.
“I used to have damaged hair from straightening it so much, but I did this a year ago for a long time and now my hair is so good,” one wrote.
“OMG I just did this two weeks ago, my hair always feels thick after,” another said.
The haircare advice comes after an article by MedicalNewsToday which revealed the benefits of applying egg.
