I was a teen mum at 16 & people’s stereotypes are bang-on – no I’m not with the dad & yes, I sit along a school events
A WOMAN who fell pregnant at the tender age of just 16 has spoken about the stereotypes of being a young mum.
The 26-year-old, who has a 10-year-old son and five-year-old daughter, decided to share some of the most frequent comments she received.
In a clip posted to TikTok, the teen mum, known only as @awiley0720, begins by saying: "I'm a teen mum, of course every time somebody hears how old my son is they have to comment you don't look old enough to have a 10 year old."
She responds by joking: "Yeah, because I'm not."
The proud mum goes on to say how she always has to sit by herself at sporting events because all the other parents are "way older" than her, before noting how "of course" her son has a stepdad, too.
She quips: "My brain wasn't fully functioning in high school."
Not stopping there, she proceeds to say that she's always remembered as being the "pregnant girl on campus" and jokes that her friends will have a "free babysitter" once they finally have kids.
She continues: "I was a teenage mum, so of course my son seems like he's my annoying little brother rather than my child."
The social media users also explains that after having her son, she had to go back to a school that had a day care, and goes on to say how everyone assumed she was a "h**."
However she points out: "In reality y'all were way worse than me...
I just happened to get pregnant my first time."
The post has since gone viral, racking up over 640 views and several comments from other young mums from across the globe.
"I’m 32 with a 13 year old and we just had our first 'is that your sister' moment.. All the others are 'you don’t look old enough,' wrote one.
A second penned: "I’m 32 with a 14 I felt this! I was a teenage mum!"
A third commented: "Yep I was a teenage mum, so my daughter is 6 years older than my youngest sibling."
Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "Had my son at 20, he’s now 18 and when we go anywhere together people think we’re a couple."
Another commented: "It never stops either. I’m 41 and my daughter is about to be 25 people still say there is no way you have a 25-years-old.
And a further added: "On god…..as soon as I say he 16 they give me a look like well how old are you?"
The young mum responded: "Like they get so offended by OUR life!"
