My friend & I left bad relationships to start a ‘mommune’ – we built tiny lake houses and are raising our kids together
A DIY-SAVVY mom has teamed up with another single parent to start a community of their own.
She left many people in awe of their lifestyle after giving a glimpse inside her tiny home overlooking a lake.
Brooke Burnett (@magical_girl_mommune) has over 2,700 followers on TikTok, where she shares life with her three children.
She inspired others to pursue an unconventional way of living after revealing the joys of being in a “single-mom commune, Mommune.”
Michael Bublé’s cover of Feeling Good played in the background as she gave a tour.
“It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life, it’s a new life for me… and I’m feeling good,” the lyrics sang.
Brooke showed the process of building a tiny home with help from a friend, complete with a refrigerator, washing machine, and TV.
Her children looked happy as they played with animals and embraced nature.
“POV [point of view]: You leave toxic relationships to start a Mommune and build tiny houses for your families by the lake and raise your kids together,” read the text over the screen.
“Starting a #Mommune is goals,” she said. “10/10 recommend leaving the dusties behind and teaming up with another single mom (or two!) and building tiny houses by a lake.
“It’s pretty much the best thing ever.”
Hundreds of people liked the video and many viewers took to the comment section saying they wanted to join the community.
“Where do I sign up and what do I need to bring?” one person asked.
“Roll up with a drill and some kiddos and we can get to work!” Brooke replied.
“If your mommune needs a grandma I’m in,” another wrote.
“Come on down!” Brooke said.
The mom founded Magical Girl Mommune back in 2021 when she sold her house and everything inside of it to live on a half acre of land by a lake in an RV.
She connected with fellow single mom Djemilah around the same time that she decided a small cottage would be a better long-term place for her family to live.
Brooke said it took eight months for her to convert a 600-square-foot storage shed into a home.
In a previous home tour, she showed the dining area, small kids’ loft, and bathroom.
She spoke candidly about how the family has had to adapt to living in a small space after previously living in a “huge house” on five acres of land.

It has to do "with a lot of built-in storage and tons of time outside," she said.
"We really love living here," she added.
