Hong Kong welcomed 21 million tourists in first half of 2024, 64% jump from last year
According to the latest data, 21 million people – or a daily average of 116,000 visitors – came to Hong Kong in the first half of this year, a 64 per cent jump from last year.
About 16.1 million visitors recorded in the first half of the year were from mainland China, marking a year-on-year increase of more than 60 per cent.

About 5 million visitors were from other areas, which also saw an 80 per cent increase from last year. Around half of them were overnight visitors in the first half of 2024, similar to the previous year’s figures.
In June alone, 3.13 million visitors were recorded, marking a 14 per cent increase year on year.
“Visitors were satisfied with their overall experience in Hong Kong,” the board said. “Overnight visitors rated Hong Kong 8.7 out of 10 for satisfaction from January to May.
“Ninety-four per cent of visitors said they intended to revisit and recommend Hong Kong to others.”
The board’s departing visitor survey also showed that Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok’s Temple Street and Ladies’ Market, The Peak and Disneyland were the most popular places for overnight visitors.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung said in March tourist arrivals from the mainland and Southeast Asia had recovered “quite well”.
He added that authorities would focus on promoting tourism in Hong Kong to the Middle East in addition to the European and American markets.
