All in the prep
According to Southerly, the preparation is key when it comes to selling online.
She explained: “You're gonna need about half a day to get this done, but £250 for half a day's work? Doesn’t sound too shabby.
“You’ll wanna organise your clothes into piles first - the key is in the prep.
“Get anything out of your wardrobe that you haven't worn in at least six months.
“I don't care if you think you're gonna fit in it in a few months - you’re gonna make some money to buy some better things.
“Get a cheap little storage unit or bag - once you've got your photo, fold it up and put it in.”
Snap this
We then saw Southerly take mirror selfies to show off her unwanted items of clothing, as she added: “Try your best to take photos of it on. Things sell so much better when somebody's actually wearing it.
“Do front, side and I try to do the back.
“If you don't want your face to be in it, just hold your phone in front of your face.
Remember if it's new with tags, always try and take a photo of the tag

“Honestly, nobody cares what you look like, they just wanna see how it fits on a body.
“Make sure that your most aesthetic, prettiest picture is the front cover.”
In the details
When it comes to the title of your items, Southerly shared the two smart phrases that you should include, if of course they apply.
She added: “Keywords into the name - what people will be searching for when they go onto Vinted, is your item oversized? Is it knitted?”
Where the description is concerned, Southerly explained: “In the description, I like to put my size for reference and maybe a place where you could wear this item - is it for a wedding or a hen do?
“Remember if it's new with tags, always try and take a photo of the tag.”
New Vinted rules to be aware of
If you fancy clearing out your wardrobe and getting rid of your old stuff on Vinted, you’ll need to consider the new rules that recently came into play.
If people are selling personal items for less than they paid new (which is generally the case for second-hand sales), there is no impact on tax.
However, since January 1, digital platforms, including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted, must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.
You're unlikely to be affected if you only sell a handful of second-hand items online each year - generally, only business sellers trading for profit might need to pay tax.
A tax-free allowance of £1,000 has been in place since 2017 for business sellers trading for profit - the only time that an individual personal item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit from the sale.
However, firms now have to pass on your data to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.
It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.
While your data won't be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you'll still need to pay tax as normal.
Price it right
Southerly then shared her advice on pricing, as she advised: “Put it up for cheap! I know sometimes we don't want to, but people want a bargain.
“You’d really be surprised how quickly things add up. Let’s face it, we'd rather the money than it just sat in our wardrobe.”
Post off
Finally, if you are new to selling on Vinted, Southerly explained that you can adjust your settings based on your postage and printing options.
She concluded: “And no, you don't need a printer for the label. In your settings, you can select QR codes.
“You can just select one delivery option.
“And these are the bags that I get from Amazon.
“There’s sticky strips, so no need for sellotape.”
She then advised her followers: “Go turn your clothes into some money.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @southerlybower, has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly racked up 34,000 views in just 20 hours.
Social media users were thankful for Southerly’s tips and many took to the comments to express this.
One person said: “I need to do this!”
To this, Southerly then replied and claimed: “YOU DO! It’s such a chore I know but so worth it! Put something on telly and do it.”
Another added: “I love this advice.”
