Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Manuel Ugarte medical LATEST, Chelsea ‘eye Sterling-Sancho SWAP DEAL’, McTominay ‘EXIT’

  • Ferdinand slams transfer decision

Rio Ferdinand has slammed Manchester United's transfer decision to sell Scott McTominay.

McTominay is set to join Napoli after the Italians struck a £25million deal to land the 27-year-old.

I look at Scott McTominay and not every player can be a star, a standout player.

But to win the league you need the likes of John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher… you need a Julian Alvarez at Man City.

They might not start every game but they were huge, you need those players and most of them know the DNA of the club, especially ones who have come through the academy, there’s a lot to be said for that.

It really doesn’t sit well with me. To replace him you’re going to have to spend £30m or £40m and give him £150,000 a week probably.

It’s not going to be cheap and it’s a gamble, you don’t know what you’re going to get, whereas with McTominay you know what you’re getting.

He might not always be a 9/10 but invariably he’s a solid 7/10 and sometimes he will be an 8/10 and get you a goal.

  • Cristiano's future

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he isn't anywhere close to retiring.

Although the forward will turn 40 in February, the superstar says he has a couple of years in him yet - and probably won't be heading for the dugout after retiring.

I don't know if I will retire soon, in two or three years... but probably I will retire here at Al Nassr.

I'm very happy at this club, I feel good in this country too".

I'm happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue.

It's very difficult to think that I will be a manager one day.

In my mind, I'm not considering to be the head coach of any football team. I don't even think about it.

Probably I see my future doing things out of football.

  • Mejbri out

Hannibal Mejbri is set to join Championship side Burnley in a shock permanent transfer.

The 21-year-old midfielder played 10 games for United last season and was expected to be a big part of their future.

But he will complete a medical imminently and move to the Clarets for an undisclosed fee - with the funds counting as pure profit on United's books as he counts as a homegrown asset after five years at the club.

  • Ugarte travelling TODAY

Manuel Ugarte will reportedly travel to England TODAY to complete his Manchester United deal.

The Red Devils have been locked in talks with PSG over the midfielder, 23, for around a week.

Personal terms had been sorted for a while but the two clubs were butting heads over the fee - with the French giants demanding £51m for the Uruguayan.

A loan move was then discussed, but the imminent £25m sale of Scott McTominay to Napoli has raised enough funds to get the deal over the line.

  • De Gea Axe

Former United star David De Gea was AXED after just one game by his new club Fiorentina.

The Spaniard, 33, had a disastrous debut for La Viola on Thursday night, conceding two early goals against Hungarian minnows Puskas Akademia in a shock 3-3 draw.

For Sunday's clash against Venezia, manager Raffaele Palladino picked Pietro Terracciano, with De Gea on the bench.

Terracciano then kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw.

  • Pereira windfall?

Man Utd could benefit from Eddie Nketiah's move to Nottingham Forest breaking down.

Forest are said to now be lining up a move for Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira, 28, who has been a key player for the Cottagers since he joined in 2022.

The former United star has started both games for Marco Silva's side this season and will likely come with a hefty price tag.

Erik ten Hag could benefit as Pereira has a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his contract, leaving the Red Devils quids in if he does move on.

  • Sterling pay-off saga

Raheem Sterling will sort out his Chelsea pay-off before trying to find a new club.

And that could prove a £70million obstacle to him quitting the club before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The winger, 29, was told just two days before the first game of the season that he has no future at Chelsea under head coach Enzo Maresca.

Manchester UnitedAston VillaCrystal Palace and a host of other Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for the one-time England star.

Saudi Arabia’s Pro League have also expressed interest in him.

Sterling wants to stay in England’s top flight but still has three years left on a £325,000 a week contract plus bonuses.

He will accept a compromise if the overall severance package and alternative club is suitable but he will not ask for a transfer.

And that is putting pressure on Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart to come up with an agreeable golden goodbye to see Sterling quit.

  • Utd legend Nev’s soft spot for Arsenal

Man Utd legend Gary Neville has named Arsenal as the club he'd have chosen to join - if he had to move.

The ex-England defender was posed that question by Jamie Carragher on The Overlap.

Neville said: “I’m going to say Arsenal.

“They were the club that I generally had massive respect for, it’s a club of proper tradition.”

  • Manuel on brink

Manchester United’s prime target Manuel Ugarte is preparing to jet in to seal his move from PSG.

That’s the claim of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano over the long-term midfield target.

The Uruguayan, 23, has already agreed personal terms.

  • Matthaus fury over Matthijs sale

Bayern Munich all-time great Lothar Matthaus is astounded Matthijs de Ligt was sold to Manchester United.

    Credit: Getty

The Bundesliga giants have so far paired former United target Kim Min-jae and Arsenal-linked Dayot Upamecano in central defence.

But ex-Germany midfielder Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany: “The defence is and remains Bayern’s Achilles heel,

“Matthijs de Ligt was sold, even though he was the most stable defender over the past two years. He was the leader of the backline. Now Bayern are again looking for a successor to David Alaba.

For me, it’s pathetic that this leader is missing. If de Ligt had not been sold, I would not have worries at (about) FC Bayern now

“But my opinion about him is probably different to the people in charge. It’s a decision that has to be accepted.

“But many – including within the team – are just shaking their heads. Because the players also know that their defence is shaky. And then the best defender is sold.”

  • Bees hope to crack the Kayode

Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode is reportedly on Brentford’s radar.

The Italy Under-21 star was linked with Arsenal and Manchester United last year.

Sky Sports suggest the 20-year-old is one of several transfer options under consideration by the Bees.

  • Juve want Chelsea target on loan from Utd

Juventus reportedly only want Chelsea target Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

Their reporter Dharmesh Sheth revealed what he knows about the situation on X.

He wrote: “Juventus have made clear to Manchester United they want loan for Jadon Sancho. Juve know of Chelsea interest.

“Now waiting for United & Sancho to make decision. United’s preference is permanent. Sancho has 3 years (2+1) left on deal so loan not ruled out.”

  • Ivan edging closer to exit

Possible Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea target Ivan Toney was left out of Brentford’s squad for the second Premier League game in a row, as talk of his transfer intensifies.

Manager Thomas Frank said: “The status is the same as last week.

“Things are going on with transfer speculation so the decision is the same. He is training well, there is no problem.

“I’d rather focus on the game and the players that are playing instead of talking about him.”

  • How Red Devils could look with Chilwell & Sterling

Manchester United could be reinforced by two Chelsea outcasts before Friday's transfer deadline, writes TONY ROBERTSON.

The Blues are said to be among a number of clubs interested in Jadon Sancho, alongside Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

Sancho, 24, is yet to feature in a matchday squad for Erik ten Hag's side this season despite apparently patching things up with the Dutchman following their bust-up last season.

SunSport have taken a look at the possible look of the Red Devils for the upcoming season.

  • Liverpool 'now lead Prem race for Osimhen'

Victor Osimhen has been linked in the past year with Arsenal as well as Manchester United - and, most recently, Chelsea.

But now it's claimed Liverpool is the Napoli striker's likeliest destination if he switches to the Prem.

Osimhen has reportedly ruled out switching to Saudi Arabia.

And although Chelsea have been the main movers this summer, The Times reckon Arne slot's Liverpool are in fact best placed to recruit the Nigerian 25-year-old.

The Uruguayan, 23, has already agreed personal terms.

  • Red Devils linked with shock Raheem approach

Manchester United have emerged as the most surprising team linked with Raheem Sterling.

The ex-Man City and Liverpool attacker appears one of the most likely players to depart Chelsea's bulging squad this week - along with a former England team-mate, left-back Ben Chilwell.

It's understood Sterling’s representatives have been weighing up his options.

Even Arsenal have been mentioned - but that's been all but ruled out in many reports.

Aston Villa and, most recently, Crystal Palace are said to have a genuine interest in the 29-year-old.

And it's now suggested the Red Devils might also be monitoring the situation.

Chelsea are still thought to be keen on United winger Jadon Sancho, who is set for talks with Juventus.

  • Gunners tipped to bid for Brighton striker

Arsenal and Manchester City could reportedly come in for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.

Football Transfers claim the Gunners are considering a bid for the 19-year-old, who was previously linked to Manchester United.

  • Bayern legend blasts 'pathetic' sale of De Ligt to Utd

Bayern Munich all-time great Lothar Matthaus is astounded Matthijs de Ligt was sold to Manchester United.

The Bundesliga giants have so far paired former United target Kim Min-jae and Arsenal-linked Dayot Upamecano in central defence.

But ex-Germany midfielder Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany: "The defence is and remains Bayern’s Achilles heel,

  • 'Red Devils still interested in Liverpool target'

Liverpool's bid to land Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili might not be as smooth as thought.

Manchester United reportedly still have an interest in the Georgian Euro 2024 star.

But Anfield is by far the likeliest destination for the giant stopper.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano commented on X: “Liverpool are pushing to seal Giorgi Mamardashvili deal with new contacts with Valencia already scheduled.

"One more meeting will take place as agreement is done on €35m (about £30m)fee plus sell-on clause, still negotiating on deal structure. Giorgi would stay at Valencia on loan.”

  • Prem clubs circle as Victor 'rejects Saudis'

Top Prem target Victor Osimhen is expected to reject a huge-money Saudi Arabia offer.

Arsenal and especially Chelsea this summer are reportedly monitoring the Napoli striker's situation

The Nigerian's agent Roberto Calenda wrote on X: “Osimhen is a Napoli player, with a contract recently renewed with mutual satisfaction.

"He made history and when there were major offers (also this year) we always accepted the club’s decisions.

“As I said, he is not a package to be shipped far away to make room for new prophets. Victor was elected African footballer of the year, eighth at the Ballon d’Or, he still has so much to do in Europe. There needs to be respect and balance.”

  • Man Utd’s fixtures

United will be looking to bounce back after defeat to Brighton.

Here’s a reminder of their fixtures for this season.

  • Nev admits he was wrong on Raya

Gary Neville believes Mikel Arteta got it right after all - when he claimed David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale were joint Arsenal No1s.

Raya quickly became the main man - despite Arteta's words - after he arrived on loan from Brentford a year ago.

The Spanish stopper then made the move permanent this summer - and arguably is in his best form ever.

Manchester United legend Neville told his own podcast: "I mean, I complained at the time.

"And what I complained about what this idea you can have two No1s and that they compete for a place.

"I don't believe that happens. I mean, it's gonna come at Chelsea in the next few weeks, where you've got multiple goalkeepers and you've got this uncertainty. And I've never seen it really work.

"What Mikel Arteta was actually doing was selecting David Raya as No1, as we found out in the end, and letting Ramsdale down quietly. Rather than just coming out in the press conference and saying, 'Look, David Raya's my No1,' he said, 'No, I've got two goalkeepers. I want them both to compete."
