I’m a beauty editor and Living Proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo is my new favourite product – my hair’s never felt cleaner

I've always liked Living Proof's hair care products (its dry shampoo is my all-time favourite) as they really do what they say on the tin - and so I was excited to try this new product.

Like all Living Proof products, there's some clever science behind this shampoo.

It uses gentle surfactants to emulsify excess oil and impurities without stripping the hair, along with magnetic polymers that attract product build-up.

There's also charcoal in the formula to absorb odours and 'chelating agents' to remove metals in the water like copper.

This appealed to me as, although I don't use many hair styling products, my roots get greasy very quickly, making my whole hair look limp and lifeless.

However, in the past, every 'detoxing' or 'deep cleaning' shampoo I've tried has been too drying on my bleached hair; it's made my lengths so knotty that I've had to use handfuls of conditioner to be able to get a comb through them, and so making it greasy again.

Living Proof's Detox Shampoo, however, has been a revelation.

After lathering up (the shampoo is an unusual dark grey colour but don't worry, it won't stain your hair or your shower), leaving it on for a couple of minutes as instructed then rinsing off, my hair felt super clean but not squeaky and stripped.

I still needed to follow with conditioner (my long, fine, bleached strands will always need conditioner), but my hair already felt better than with past experiences.

Once blow-dried, my hair looked great, and my roots felt fresh and clean - but the real revelation was how long my hairstyle lasted.

I usually wash my hair every other day - and even on day two it's normally twisted up into a topknot - but after using this shampoo, I could easily stretch out wash day for a third day.

However, you also don't need to use this Shampoo each wash.

Living Proof say in the description on the website, "Clarifying Detox Shampoo is gentle enough to be used in place of your regular shampoo as needed.

"We recommend using this clarifying shampoo once a week if you are not sure how often you should use this shampoo."

My one minor niggle is that because the formula is thick, it's a little tricky to squeeze out of the bottle (I found that I needed to stand it upside down in the shower).

And at £31 it's not cheap, but as this only needs to be used once a week, this 236ml bottle will last for much longer than your usual shampoo, and I'll be making this a regular part of my hair care routine.
