Turkmenistan is an honorary guest of the SCO summits

The next summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in the fall of 2025 in the Chinese city of Tianjin, opening a new chapter in the development of the Organization. This opinion was expressed in an exclusive interview with RIA Novosti by SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev. He stated that the Chinese side is successfully implementing its plan for the SCO chairmanship, and the upcoming summit will be held at the highest level and will be a key event of the "year of China".

Responding to a question about the participants of the Tianjin summit, the Secretary General noted that putting forward proposals on the composition of the summit participants is the prerogative of the country chairing the SCO, adding that the traditional participants in the meetings of the council of heads of state are Mongolia as an observer country and Turkmenistan as a guest of the presiding state.

During the conversation, Nurlan Yermekbayev told the agency about the plans and priorities for the development of the association in the coming years, and also shared information about the preparation of high-level meetings within the SCO and told what measures the organization can take to strengthen security in the region. He also emphasized that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization does not experience a shortage of applications for accession because today, 24 years after its formation, the SCO has become one of the most important participants in the modern system of international relations, and its role in creating conditions for strengthening global peace, security and stability, as well as building a new democratic, fair, political and economic world order is steadily increasing.
