Boris Johnson swoops to bid on a surprising piece of memorabilia from The Crown

BORIS Johnson seems so keen to get back into No10 he’s in the bidding for a £30,000 replica of the Downing Street door.

The 13ft prop was used in The Crown.

It is being sold with a wrought-iron street lamp.

And insiders said Boris — PM between July 2019 and September 2022 — put in a bid as soon as the lot went live.

A source said: “It gave everyone a good laugh.

"It’s a massive prop so nobody knows where Boris would put it if he wins.

“But he’s clearly got a touch of nostalgia after seeing it.

"The team working on the sale have joked he is so keen to get back inside No10 he’s buying it for his house.

"Boris will be updated about competing bids and the winner will be decided on February 7.”

The No10 façade was first seen in the debut series of The Crown in 2016.

It is a direct copy of the original and includes a letterbox engraved with “First Lord of the Treasury”.

Bonhams is listing the item plus furniture and costumes from the royal drama.

The Crown ended with Tony Blair still Prime Minister in the late 1990s.

Boris, 59, now lives in Oxfordshire with wife Carrie, 35, and their three kids, aged three, two, and six months.

He last made a play for No10 when his successor Liz Truss quit after just 45 days in October 2022.

He flew back from a Caribbean holiday — and despite scraping into the Tory leadeship contest, Boris quit, paving the way for Rishi Sunak to become PM.
