"However, I started gaining a lot of weight in my teens."

Deep down, I realised I just wasn't happy carrying extra weight.

Hilary added that moving school in her teenage years led to years of battling her body through extreme diets and unhealthy habits.

"From my teen years and stretching all the way into my early 30s, I was on countless yo-yo diets," Hilary explained.

"I'd ping-pong from one extreme to another - stuffing myself silly one minute, then barely eating or purging the next. I was willing to try anything to lose weight, even if it meant downing diet pills or resorting to laxatives.

"But then, at 34, I found out I was pregnant. I didn't want to put my baby at risk, so I stopped dieting."

Hilary, who also works as an online English tutor, added: "After I had my first child, and then two more followed, I was at my heaviest and so unhappy with my body."

But in 1999 something shifted in Hilary's mind as she thought about how unhappy she was.

"I was sitting in a chair one night, feeling depressed," reports the DailyStar.

"My mind was racing with thoughts like, 'I've got to shed this weight and make sure it stays off, or I've got to come to terms with being heavier than I want for the rest of my life'.

"Deep down, I realised I just wasn't happy carrying extra weight. That's when something clicked. I made a pact with myself: 'This isn't just another diet. You're reshaping how you eat for the long haul'."

Three decades on, Hilary has kept the weight off and is happier than ever with her body, which many have said looks like a 20 year olds.

Hilary revealed she keeps a strict routine, getting up every morning to workout at home and check the scales.

She explains she has a narrow weight range to keep her on track.

As well as at-home-workouts, the mum also makes sure she goes for a long four-mile walk every day to keep her active.

Hilary also keeps the weight off by eating balanced home-cooked meals her husband makes and said the pair rarely get take-aways.

Her new lifestyle and love of fitness, which she shares on her Instagram account @hilaryleslie has inspired many to get involved too and not be scared of ageing.

She added: "They realise it's possible to be older yet still as lively as someone much younger.

"I always encourage people to just get started, no matter their age. I began my fitness journey when I was 45, but I've been reaping the benefits all the way to 70. Being healthy and fit has profoundly enriched my life."
