Coronation Street fans demand massive cast cull as they slam soap for ‘turning into Hollyoaks’

FUMING fans of Coronation Street have been left begging the show for a serious cast shake-up and insist it isn't Hollyoaks after being overran by teenagers.

The ITV soap opera has seen a heavy increase in teenage led stories over the past 18 months, much to many viewers chagrin.

Departing from its once notable stance on family-based stories, Coronation Street has invested heavily into its younger cast in a move which has drawn heavy comparison to Channel 4 rival Hollyoaks who are notable in that demographic.

Liam Connor's bullying hell at the hands of Mason Radcliffe and Liam Connor has become a long-running plot but it seems it is making more viewiers tune out than turn in.

As well as that, Eliza Carpenter's constant flitting between her father and grandfather has dominated the show along with the many woes of Lauren Bolton.

Max Turner has also seen his fair share of screen time thanks to his wavering romance with neighbour Sabrina.

However, fans have insisted enough is enough and have been left demanding a change and a cast cull in order to restore the soap's glory.

Writing online, one fan wrote: "[We need] less focus on teenagers and younger characters. It’s almost as bad as Hollyoaks these days."

Another echoed: "The young ones are so forgettable. I know they need to nurture the next generation to keep corrie going, but the choices so far have been poor."

A third went on to say: "I agree too many teenagers, how many do we have now?

"Dylan, Max, Amy, Aadi, Asha, Liam, Hope, Sam and their hangers on (Eliza, Mason etc), and they are giving them naff storylines which are pointless to their character development, often too young as well."

The fuming fan continued: "Teenagers from previous era's were not given their own big storyline until they were about 15/16, and which were their coming of age storylines e.g Sophie coming out."

It has left viewers craving to see more of the stronger female characters on-screen with many of them having featured less and less frequently.

Characters including Tracy Barlow and Eileen Grimshaw have failed to feature in their own storylines for over a year.

Suggesting a way of improvement, one went on to add: "We need Becky and Liz and Michelle and Shelley and Janice and some real investment in the shows history!

"It’s flogging a dead horse constantly bringing in expendable younger cast who cannot act. I hate to say it but I just don’t care about Devs kids or Tracey Barlows offspring."
