Euro 2024 news LIVE: Luke Shaw to RETURN to England training, Kylian Mbappe broken nose LATEST, Rudiger injury updates

  • England training latest

All 26 England players - including Luke Shaw - are due to train today.

Shaw has been dealing with an ankle problem since he was called up to the Three Lions' Euro 2024 squad.

The Manchester United ace has yet to play in this year's tournament.

That means Gareth Southgate's side has been without a left-back with Kieran Trippier filling in.

  • Klinsmann slams Kane talk

Jurgen Klinsmann has slammed calls to drop Harry Kane against Slovenia.

In his column for SunSport, the German striker believes Kane will come good and it's absurd to even thing about leaving him out.

  • Beer shortage

ENGLAND fans face a beer drought in Cologne after Scotland’s Tartan Army fans drank bars dry - knocking back a million pints in three days.

A record-breaking army of at least 50,000 Three Lions supporters have begun arriving in the historic city for the crunch clash with Slovenia on Tuesday.

But bars are struggling to restock after 100,000 thirsty Auld Enemy drinkers drained the city when the Scots’ drew 1-1 draw with Switzerland last week.

A manager at Cologne’s Corkonian Irish pub, on the main Alter Markt square, said: “The Scotland fans drank everything – beer, Guinness and vodka. Our cellar was emptied.

“It was the same at other bars, with record beer sales - even more than carnival.

“Now we’re all now trying to get more deliveries from breweries to get drinks for England fans.”

  • Kane for a laugh

HARRY KANE joked he will speak to his agent after being offered unlimited SAUSAGE and free drinks if he signs for a seventh-tier German team.

The England skipper, 30, was quizzed by the media ahead of the Three Lions' final Euro 2024 Group C game against Slovenia on Tuesday.

  • Rice warns pundits

DECLAN RICE urged England's critics to think before they speak.

Harry Kane reminded the likes of Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer that they never won anything in a Three Lions shirt.

Asked if he was disappointed with the criticism of England's Euro 2024 campaign, he told ITV: “No, I’m not disappointed because I’ve played football long enough now, I know how they work.

“That’s why I really do not get bothered about it at all.

“Look, they’re entitled to their opinion, they’re on the TV. They’re saying whatever they want.

“I know some of them personally, they’re great guys, but like I said, they’ve been in our shoes as well.

“Sometimes just to have that thought of process, just before they speak that they have been where I’m sat and where our other players have sat and not done well at tournaments.

“So look… I don’t know why we feel like it’s such a negative thing. We’re talking like we’re going out the tournament here.

“We’re top of the group, we need to stay positive, stay upbeat.

“Let’s have some positivity going into games.

“Let’s give players the best confidence in the world. Your players like your Phil Fodens, your [Bukayo] Sakas, your Jude Bellinghams. Tell them they’re the best players in the world.

“Make them read that and think, ‘I’m going to go out there and perform and give it absolutely everything’.

“Rather than reading the negative comments, [having it] sitting on their mind and then thinking that they can’t play a certain way. That’s the way I think about it.

“I’m sure we have enough of them people as well which is good.”

  • Kane defends form

HARRY KANE has launched a bullish defence of his own form and fitness.

He said: “In the games at this tournament I’ve felt as fit as I have all season.

“I know I came off in the second game but that was down to the manager wanting to see something different and freshening up the front players.

“From my point of view I am fit, I am getting better and better in each game.

“In previous tournaments I’ve spoken about trying to make sure you come into your peak for the knockouts. Time will tell but it’s important to go into this knockout stage feeling 100 per cent and I feel I am there.

“Have I played the best that I know I can? No. But I didn’t score in the group stage at the World Cup, I didn’t score in the group stage at the last Euros.

“So from that point of view, it’s a bonus to be one goal ahead.”

  • Switzerland 1-1 Germany

The Germans left it late to secure a 1-1 draw against Switzerland.

It means they have topped their group.

    Read our match report below.

  • Scotland are out

    It's heartbreak for the Scots.

They are out of the Euros, following a 1-0 loss to Hungary.

Kevin Csoboth buried the Tartan Army in the 10th minute of injury time to seal their fate.

  • Game suspended

SCOTLAND'S game against Hungary was paused after a potentially serious injury to Barnabas Varga.

The striker collided with Scottish No1 Angus Gunn and medics rushed onto the field to help him.

Sheets were brought out to cover Varga with several team-mates including Dominik Szoboszlai seen in tears.

The forward was carried off the field on a stretcher as fans applauded in the hope he will be OK.

Martin Adam came onto the field to replace Varga, 29, who plays for Ferencvaros in his homeland.

The game was paused for five minutes before resuming after a VAR check for a potential penalty was waved away.

  • Scotland 0-0 Hungary

    It's half-time in Stuttgart.

To be fair, it's been a bit of a dull affair - both sides have yet to get going.

In other news, Switzerland are beating the Germans at half-time.

As it stands, that puts the Swiss top of the group.

  • Fishing with Foden

PHIL FODEN is still searching for his best form at the Euros - but has caught a few big fish at England’s training base!

The keen angler has made the most of the lakes at the Weimarer Land Spa and Golf resort in the picturesque Blankenhain, east Germany, where the Three Lions are situated.

The Manchester City superstar, 24, told FA show Lions’ Den: “I’ve had a little bit of time to go fishing, so it’s been nice.

“(I’ve caught) some big ‘uns, yeah! I’ve caught some nice fish.”

  • Harry Kane hits back

Harry Kane has launched a bullish defence of his own form and fitness.

The England skipper and all-time record scorer has been widely criticised for sub-standard performances against Serbia and Denmark in his side’s opening two group matches.

But Kane insists he is "as fit as I’ve been all season" - and pointed out that he has scored one more goal than at this stage in England’s previous two tournaments.

Kane was substituted midway through the second half of Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Denmark, despite having opened the scoring.

But in response to criticism of his overall contributions, after a back injury at the end of the domestic season, Kane insists he feels as good as he did while scoring 44 goals in his maiden campaign with Bayern Munich.

In the games at this tournament I’ve felt as fit as I have all season. I know I came off in the second game but that was down to the manager wanting to see something different and freshening up the front players.

From my point of view I am fit, I am getting better and better in each game. In previous tournaments I’ve spoken about trying to make sure you come into your peak for the knockouts. Time will tell but it’s important to go into this knockout stage feeling 100 per cent and I feel I am there.

Have I played the best that I know I can? No. But I didn’t score in the group stage at the World Cup, I didn’t score in the group stage at the last Euros. So from that point of view, it’s a bonus to be one goal ahead.

  • Kylian Mbappe's mask

Kylian Mbappe trained in his mask once again but still does not look entirely happy wearing one.

The forward tried two different masks on during the session and, once the contact part had finished, took it off and launched his new kit high into the sky.

Some of the squad ended with a finishing drill in which the busiest man was not the keeper but the coach having to fetch balls from behind the goal so wayward were most of the efforts.

The shootout was won by defender Benjamin Pavard, who looks unlikely to even play a game during the tournament.

  • Mbappe back in training

Kylian Mbappe is up and running once more for France after suffering a broken nose.

The French captain, 25, was forced off in their Euros opener against Austria after breaking his nose and was not risked from the bench against the Netherlands.

However, the day after the 0-0 draw with the Dutch in Leipzig, Mbappe scored two goals and laid on two assists in a behind closed doors friendly as they gear up to face Poland.

Les Bleus have now faced Paderborn's Under-21s twice following their matches in Germany - with Didier Dechamps keen to give those who were not involved in the previous night's game a chance to get some match fitness.

Mbappe played the full 60-minute match - with the main purpose being for him to get used to playing with his custom made mask on.

  • England raising their game

Phil Foden says the intensity of England training has gone up as Gareth Southgate’s side look to raise their game.

I feel like the intensity has gone up a little bit.

We’ve had a good start, we’re on four points, but we expect more from ourselves.

I look around and the characters we have, we always expect more from ourselves. Training has gone up going into this game.

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold experiment

England legend Chris Waddle jumped to the defence of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold and slammed manager Gareth Southgate’s handling of the player.

    Waddle told Genting Casino:

Trent Alexander-Arnold is playing as part of a midfield two, and I don’t understand why Gareth Southgate has made that decision.

Trent has tremendous passing range, and playing for Liverpool, we’ve seen him hit those lovely balls from right-back or when he’s stepped into the midfield.

The difference is he has willing runners that stretch the play. Mo Salah, Darwin, Diaz, they will run all day for him.

At England, there are no runners, so his greatest strength – his passing range – in that midfield role is completely wasted.

He’s playing it simple because he has to – all these England players in front of him, except for [Bukayo] Saka sometimes, want the ball to feet.

Trent’s a wonderful player, but his best attribute is being wasted in this midfield role for England. If we’re going to play Trent in midfield, then Southgate needs to get more runners into his team.

We need a player with the mindset to think ‘when Trent’s on the ball, I'm going to run behind my full back because he’ll find me'

  • Nico Williams advice

Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams should join Arsenal over Chelsea this summer, as per Stuart Pearce.

    Pearce told Footy Accumulators:

For Nico Williams, you’ve got to say that Arsenal will be a better destination for him than Chelsea at this moment in time.

However, it’s down to what the teams want to pay financially in their wage structure and maybe if he’s got one or two friends at individual clubs as well then they’ll talk him round.

Any players in Europe that are young and talented, they’re going to get suitors in the Premier League and often more than one club so it could also be personal preference.

The more talented players we get coming to the Premier League the better and he would be one of them, we’ve got talented players from all over Europe and the world coming and plying their trade here which is excellent.

    Stuart Pearce
  • Guehi boosts transfer chances

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has boosted his chances of a Manchester United move thanks to his impressive displays for England at Euro 2024.

That is according to Stuart Pearce, who told Footy Accumulators:

I think Lisandro Martinez is deemed as the number one central defender for Manchester United but Marc Guehi has done his chances of joining him no harm at Euro 2024.

I think he's had a brilliant season for his club and what he's done in these two games, whenever he steps out for England, I've been quite impressed with him. He has a little bit off pace and he reads the game extremely well.

Physically he's not got big stature for a central defender but I think he makes up for that with his pace and his knowledge of the game.

So he's done himself no harm of landing a big transfer and it'll be no surprise to me if Palace get a lot of interest in him after the Euros.

  • What do Scotland need to qualify in third place?

The Scots have never qualified from the group stage of ANY major tournament.

And their final group stage clash against Hungary TONIGHT is their last hope of breaking this curse.

But what do they need to do?

SunSports Stewart Fisher has broken down what Steve's Clarke's squad need to change...

    • Last Wednesday's result means Scotland are sure to kick off against Hungary with their chance of qualification still LIVE
    • A win SHOULD be enough against Hungary to finish in third.
    • But there are no guarantees.
    • A big win against Hungary, and a big Swiss defeat against Germany, could even see us leapfrog the Swiss into SECOND, although our goal difference is currently four goals worse.
    • Teams who finish in the top two spots are assured of a spot in the knockout rounds
    • The FOUR third placed teams with the best records across the groups will also progress
  • Redknapp blasts idea Kane should be DROPPED

SunSport columnist Harry Redknapp says Gareth Southgate must stick with Harry Kane to deliver Euro 2024 glory.

Redknapp reckons he will "come alive" in Germany.

"I don’t think Harry should be left out and I can’t see a situation where Gareth will.

"He’s started slowly before and then suddenly he’s come alive.

"Harry is a team player, the best centre-forward in the world. So you don’t take him out of the team."

  • Southgate's successor

FORMER England manager Glenn Hoddle believes Gareth Southgate should leave his post whether he wins the Euros or not and has backed Pep Guardiola to succeed him.

"I'd go for Pep. With this crop of players, I think Pep would do wonders with it," he told SunSport exclusively.

"It would cost a lot of money [to bring him in] but he might actually be ready for a bit of international football.

"I'm not so sure he'd want to be Spain's manager, coming from Barcelona.

"He knows this country. Unless he wants to go to another country - [say] Italy, and manage there, or he wants a year off or whatever.

"I think he'd look at all them players and go 'Wow, I could do some damage for them'."

  • Eagle predicts England win

HONEY the psychic eagle has landed again…and predicted a resounding WIN for England in their next Euros match.

While the Danes gave pain to The Three Lions with a 1-1 draw this week, they are now set to soar back to success on Tuesday, according to the 23-year-old African Tawny Eagle who “never gets a prediction wrong”.

Alex Leonard, director of Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation in Eynsford, Kent, said: “Honey the eagle has landed and made her next psychic prediction and it’s a resounding win for the Three Lions against Slovenia.

“She flew without hesitation and landed next to the England flag.

    “It’s bad news for Slovenia.

"Our boys are going to be back flying high.

"Honey never gets a prediction wrong.”
